Rolling Prairie woman dies of hypothermia following rollover crash

OLIVE TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old woman from Rolling Prairie is dead following a rollover crash on the western edge of St. Joseph County over the weekend.

St. Joseph County police found Alexis Piotrowicz lying near the intersection of Strawberry and Hurd roads in Olive Township around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday.

Piotrowicz was unresponsive and officers soon found a car lying partially submerged in water upside down in a ditch about 100 yards away from her, according to police. First responders found her phone and purse underwater in the vehicle.

Piotrowicz died of hypothermia, according to a preliminary determination by St. Joseph County Coroner Patricia Jordan.

Police say Piotrowicz was last seen at 11:40 p.m. Friday leaving Fish Lake, Ind., around 11 miles southwest of where she was found.

Police believe Piotrowicz was alone in the car at the time of the crash.
