STORY: There is no sign of a cost-of-living crunch at Rolls-Royce.

The luxury car maker powered to a new sales record in 2022.

It sold just over 6,000 cars during the period.

That was almost 9% up on 2021, itself a record year.

The sales boom comes despite an average price tag for its vehicles of about $534,000.

It also comes despite Rolls stopping all sales in Russia, normally the market for a few hundred cars each year.

Health-crisis related lockdowns drove a drop in China too.

But the company says its sales stayed strong in the Americas, with the U.S. accounting for just over a third.

Now Chief Executive Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes says order books are full way into 2023.

And they could be set for another big boost.

The firm’s first electric vehicle will go on sale at the end of the year.

Rolls-Royce says pre-orders for the Spectre have far exceeded all expectations.

It hasn’t revealed a price for the vehicle, but says that’s never a big issue for its customers.

The company has said it expects to have fully switched to electric power for its cars by the end of the decade.
