The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2023 class on Wednesday, and several have UA connections.

Roman Harper and Jackie Sherrill are two former Alabama football players who will be included in the class. Former Alabama basketball player Gerald Wallace is another.

Another inductee, Theo Ratliff, didn't play basketball for UA, but he has West Alabama connections. He was born in Demopolis.

Other inductees are Karen Mayson Bahnsen, Karlos Dansby, Larry Kenon and Roddy White.

Harper, a Prattville native, was a three-year starter at safety for Alabama who earned a spot on the All-SEC first team in his senior season. After a UA career that included 302 tackles, five interceptions and five forced fumbles, Harper went on to become a second-round NFL draft pick in 2006 before eight years with the New Orleans Saints before two seasons with the Carolina Panthers and one last season with the Saints in 2016. Harper is now an analyst for the SEC Network.

Sherrill, who was born in Oklahoma, played football for UA on two national championship teams in the 1960s. Then he entered into a long coaching career that started at Alabama as a graduate assistant in 1966 then went to Arkansas for the same role in 1967. After assistant coaching stops at Iowa State and Pittsburgh, he got his first head coaching job at Washington State before serving as head coach of Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Mississippi State, where he stayed for 13 seasons. With the Aggies, Sherrill won three consecutive Southwest Conference championships. He is one of only two Division I-A head coaches to lead three schools to 10 wins or more.

Wallace, who was born in Sylacauga, played only one season for the Crimson Tide before heading to the NBA. He became the 25th overall pick in 2001, starting his career with the Sacramento Kings. Wallace played for everyone from the Kings and Bobcats to the Trail Blazers, Nets and Celtics over his 15 years in the league. Wallace was deemed an NBA All-Star in 2010.

The induction banquet and ceremony is scheduled for May 13 at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel.
