Rome DMV branch to reopen 2 days a week following temporary closure

The Rome Department of Motor Vehicles will reopen on a two day a week schedule starting next week, Oneida County Clerk Sandra DePerno announced Thursday in a statement.

The Rome DMV was closed indefinitely Monday, May 23, due to low staffing levels, a move that upset many, including Rome Mayor Jacqueline Izzo.

DePerno was not immediately available for comment on the sudden change. However, she did state in a prior interview that the Rome DMV could possibly reopen once an assistant manager who was out on sick leave was able to come back.

According to DePerno, per DMV regulations, an office must have at least one assistant supervisor present.

The new hours for the Rome DMV – located at 301 W. Dominick St. — are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Tuesday, May 31.
