Rome DMV hours returning to Monday through Friday

The Rome Department of Motor Vehicles will return to operating Monday through Friday, beginning Thursday, Oct. 13, Oneida County Clerk Sandra DePerno announced Tuesday.

The DMV branch closed in May, citing low staffing levels, then reopened for two days a week.

“Since making the difficult decision to scale back operations at the Rome DMV, I have been working diligently to formulate a viable plan to get it fully operational again,” DePerno said in the statement. “I would like to thank my staff for working through this difficult time.”

The DMV will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The status of the Rome DMV has become an issue in the race to replace DePerno, who is retiring at the end of her term this year as county clerk. Whitestown Town Clerk Mary Finegan and the City of Utica's Assistant Corporation Counsel Merima Smajic-Oren are vying for the spot.
