Rome Township house heavily damaged by fire

ROME TWP. — A Rome Township house was heavily damaged by fire Monday.

The Cambridge Township Fire Department, as well as the Madison Township and Adrian fire departments, were dispatched at 9:49 a.m. to the 7000 block of West U.S. 223 after a caller reported smoke and flames coming from the home's second floor.

Firefighters arriving at the scene at 10:03 a.m. confirmed fire and smoke were coming from the upper floor of the two-story house. Firefighters accessed the inside of the unoccupied house and the fire was quickly put out. Sand Lake Fire Department was asked at 10:14 a.m. to be on standby at the Cambridge Township Fire Department.

"Thank you Adrian City, Madison, Sand Lake and Lenawee County Dispatch for assisting with the incident," the Cambridge Township Fire Department said on its Facebook page.

"Due to the quick the response, the fire was brought under control relatively fast," the Madison Township Fire Department replied on its Facebook page. "Madison Township Fire Department is always willing to answer the call to assist neighboring communities as well as our own community without compromise."

Firefighters left the scene at 12:13 p.m. The cause of fire is being investigated, which tentatively appears to be accidental, fire officials said.
