Ron DeSantis files for 2024 presidential election. Where's he been on the Treasure Coast?

After months of speculation, Gov. Ron DeSantis Wednesday filed for the 2024 presidential election with Federal Election Commission.

The move came ahead of his scheduled Twitter event with Elon Musk Wednesday evening.

DeSantis has visited the Treasure Coast at least nine times since he was elected in 2018. Here is where he's been:

Indian River County

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference of Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at the Indian River County Fairgrounds as county residents lined up to receive a COVID vaccine. The governor said the state is slated to receive an additional 250,000 shots split between Pfizer and Moderna and is working on a partnership with Publix to administer the vaccine.

DeSantis met with Indian River County health officials at the county fairgrounds to discuss the county's vaccine rollout. They met at the Indian River County Fairgrounds, where he praised the system for its efficiency inoculating seniors.

DeSantis presented Fellsmere with a $750,000 grant and stopped for a beer in Vero Beach Feb. 28, 2022

DeSantis held a half-hour media event at Vero Beach Regional Airport, where he presented Fellsmere with a $750,000 grant.

The money was provided by the state Rural Infrastructure Fund and was used to fund part of the $2.5 million sewer expansion of the 1,000-acre Headwaters Commerce Park industrial complex.

After the conference, DeSantis was spotted at Walking Tree Brewery in Vero Beach, where he ordered a Babycakes oatmeal stout.

St. Lucie County

Free COVID-19 Regeneron monoclonal antibody treatment site opened Aug. 23, 2021 in Fort Pierce

DeSantis launched the free antibody treatment site at the Havert. L Fenn Center in Fort Pierce for those infected and exposed to COVID-19. The clinic closed indefinitely in January 2022 after the Food and Drug Administration revoked emergency-use authorization of the two COVID-19 treatments.

DeSantis and Department of Economic Opportunity Secretary Dane Eagle stopped by 2nd Street Bistro to present a state grant of up to $2.7 million, to be used in part to redevelop the $140 million 8-acre King's Landing project site in downtown Fort Pierce.

The candidates held their only debate in Fort Pierce. Supporters took to the sidewalks throughout the day to cheer on their preferred candidates.

Topics of the debate included inflation, abortion and DeSantis' potential run for president in 2024.

“You talk about Joe Biden a lot," Crist told DeSantis. "I understand you think you’re going to be running against him. I can see how you might get confused. But you’re running for governor. Why don’t you look in the eyes of the people of the state of Florida and say to them if you’re reelected, you will serve a full four-year term as governor? Yes or no?”

After silence from DeSantis, he responded to Crist calling him "a worn-out donkey."

DeSantis made a stop in the Tradition community of Port St. Lucie as part of his "Don't Tread on Florida" reelection campaign for the 2022 general election. He addressed rally-goers for about 50 minutes, speaking about COVID-19, immigration, inflation and "woke ideology."

Martin County

DeSantis and U.S. Rep. Brian Mast met in Stuart Aug. 19, 2018

DeSantis joined Mast to take a closer look at the St. Lucie River because of the algae crisis and Lake Okeechobee discharges in 2018.

He promised if elected governor, he would look into purchasing land owned by sugar farmers for Everglades restoration projects and appoint people to the South Florida Water Management District who understand the impacts of algae.

DeSantis announced the newly-formed Blue-Green Algae Task Force April 29, 2019, in Hobe Sound

DeSantis named the five members of the Blue-Green Algae Task Force at Nathaniel P. Reed Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge.

DeSantis said the task force would:

  • Identify opportunities to fund priority projects with state, local and federal funding

  • Build on the Department of Environmental Protection's updated Basin Management Action Plans

  • View and provide the largest and most meaningful nutrient reductions in key waterways
