Roofer facing criminal charges for allegedly defrauding 24 customers in Greene County

The Missouri Attorney General's Office announced Friday a contractor is facing criminal charges in Greene County for allegedly defrauding two-dozen customers, most of them elderly.

Glenn M. Jessen, 53, was charged with 24 counts of deceptive business practices related to his operation of Midwest Roofing Commercial & Residential, Inc., and Overland Roof Exchange, Inc., according to a news release from the Missouri Attorney General's Office.

The release says Jessen's businesses would take upfront payments from customers to repair their roofs, gutters or siding but then they either didn't complete the work or never even started it. The consumers’ combined losses totaled $148,336.44.

Consumers who believe they may have been scammed by a contractor should file a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office by calling the Consumer Protection hotline at 800-392-8222 or by submitting a complaint online at ago.mo.gov.

“As Attorney General, I will uphold the laws as written and defend innocent Missourians from being ripped off,” said Attorney General Bailey, in a news release. “I’m proud of the work done by our Consumer Protection Unit every day to protect Missourians, and we will continue to use every tool at our disposal power to safeguard against deceptive business practices.”An attempt to reach Jessen's companies using contact information on the Better Business Bureau website was not successful.
