Rooks hurls another gem for Patriots

May 17—COVENTRY — A. J. Rooks threw his second consecutive complete- game shutout, striking out 11 batters while allowing two hits with no walks as the Coventry High baseball team defeated Windsor Locks, 8-0, Monday in a North Central Connecticut Conference game.

Rooks, who was coming off a 1- hit, 4- 0 NCCC victory over Hartford Sports and Medical Science Academy last Wednesday, has thrown 14 consecutive scoreless innings for the Patriots (12-5 overall, 9- 3 league).

Nate Cordner went 4-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Matt LaFountain finished with four hits and two RBI and Aidan Hecht had two hits with a run scored and RBI to pace the offense.

In other games. ... RHAM broke out with the bats, scoring 12 runs in the top of the fourth inning in a 14- 4 Central Connecticut Conference inter- division victory over Bristol Central at Muzzy Field.

Chase Melzen ( 2 runs, RBI), Brad D'Amico (run, 2 RBI), Sean Connolly (2 runs, 2 RBI), Baig (2 runs, 3 RBI), Mike Poncini (2 runs, RBI) and Max Nylen (run, 2 RBI) all had two hits for the Raptors (12-4), who broke a 3- game losing streak in a stretch where they were scored two runs.

In Manchester, Brody Belanger had three hits and drove in four for Windham Tech in a 10- 5 Connecticut Technical Conference loss to Cheney Tech.

Belanger hit a bases- clearing 3- run triple in the top of the seventh when the Mighty Tigers ( 8- 10) scored four runs.

Austin Ducot (2 runs) doubled and tripled for Windham Tech and Ben Gardner had two hits.

Jack McLellan went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI to lead the Beavers (8-10).

SOFTBALL

Rayne Bobbi ( 3 hits, 2 runs, RBI) had three extrabase hits ( 2 doubles and a triple) while Lorretta Svedarsky went 2- for- 3 with a run scored and three RBI as Lyman Memorial edged Bacon Academy, 8- 7, in an Eastern Connecticut Conference inter- division game.

Lena- Marie Byers also had three hits with two runs scored and an RBI while Kassidy LaTour struck out 10 batters, allowed six hits and walked seven for the Bulldogs (13-4).

In Willimantic, Keira Rabideau ( 3 hits) homered with two singles and Maddie Yanez ( 2 hits) tripled as Windham Tech won for the fourth time in its last five games with an 18- 4 CTC victory over Cheney Tech.

Danielle Barrett, Delaney Flynn, Bailey Miller and Vanessa Perry all doubled for the Lady Tigers (7-11), who can wrap up a CIAC Class S state tournament berth with a

In Hebron, Taylor Fitch (2 hits, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Hadley Marchand ( 2 hits, run, RBI) each homered and RHAM scored runs in every inning in an 11-4 CCC inter- division victory over Platt.

Marchand struck out 10 batters over six innings and Jordyn Fitch worked the seventh, striking out two batters for the Raptors (14-2).

GIRLS TENNIS

Amanda Schweitzer won a third-set 10-point tie-breaker (11-9) to win at No. 1 singles for E.O. Smith in a 5-2 CCC East Division loss at Enfield. Kit Bray and Morgan Angell won at No. 2 doubles (6-4, 6-2) for the Panthers ( 3- 5 overall, 0- 4 league).
