Roosevelt, Aurora girls golf season ends one step short of state tournament

CUYAHOGA FALLS ― Madolyn Kost's high school golf season came to an end on Thursday but not with a tremendous effort from the Roosevelt junior.

Playing in the Division I girls district championship at Brookledge Golf Club, Kost finished in a tie for eighth place with an 18-hole total of 9-over par 80. More importantly, she was tied for the fourth and final qualifying spot to next week's state tournament with Aubrie Rush of Avon.

Ultimately, Rush prevailed in a two-hole playoff.

The Aurora girls team finished 10th among 16 teams at Brookledge with a score of 374. Rocky River Magnificat, led by medalist Cara Heisterkamp's 72, won the team title with 317. Medina Highland (328), North Canton Hoover (331) and Nordonia (334) also qualified to next week's state championship at the Ohio State Golf Club.

Aurora was led by sophomore Gracyn Vidovic, who shot 15-over 86. Also for the Greenmen, sophomore Manisha Girn fired a 93, junior Nine Newkirk scored 95, senior Cameron Custer finished with 100 and sophomore Meena Kraus had 103.

The other individual qualifiers were seniors Kaitlin Kormuth (78) of Solon and Ava Pulley (78) of Green and sophomore Gianna Reginelli (79) of Cleveland St. Joseph Academy.

The state tournament is Oct. 21-22 at the Gray Course.
