Roosevelt residents invited to ribbon cutting and open house

Jul. 5—PORTALES — The opening of Roosevelt County's new county road maintenance barn is being celebrated with an open house and ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The event will be at the new facility at 1320 N. Boston St., Portales.

The Roosevelt County Commission successfully used a combination of state capital outlay funding and county general funds to build the new facility. The construction cost for the 8,000 square foot road barn was just over $616,000.

"We have one of the best Road Departments in the state and the new Road Barn was long overdue," District V Commissioner Paul Grider said.

Grider described the building as large enough for equipment service, office space for road personnel and room for safety and staff meetings.

"Roosevelt County can be proud of this new facility," Grider said.

County commissioners awarded the bid to Nixon Enterprises in April, 2021, and construction began in September, 2021.

"On behalf of the Roosevelt County Road Department, we would like to thank the commissioners and legislators for recognizing the need for a new barn in our community," county road superintendent Rick Lovato said.
