Roots rock band Donna the Buffalo among Downtown Edinboro Art & Music Festival headliners

Roots rock bands Donna the Buffalo and Juvenile Characteristics will headline the annual three-day Downtown Edinboro Art & Music Festival on May 20-22.

The festival, which started in 2004, is held primarily at Goodell Gardens and Homestead, 221 Waterford St., Edinboro. Live music will also take place at various Edinboro venues, including Crossroads Dinor, 101 W. Plum St.; Sunset Grill at Edinboro Lake Resort, 12690 Edinboro Road;​​ Edinboro Hotel, 100 Meadville St.; Parker's Gallery, 111 Erie St.; and The Empty Keg, 129 Erie St.

Donna the Buffalo has a passionate following and has played thousands of shows and many festivals, including Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, Telluride, Austin City Limits Festival and more. Donna will also headline the Great Blue Heron Festival in Sherman, New York, on July 1-3.

Donna the Buffalo will close the Edinboro festival May 22 at the Goodell performance tent with a show scheduled to start after 6 p.m.

Juvenile Characteristics, an Americana folk band from Sharon, will headline the first night, following a set by the Tiger Maple String Band, on May 20 at the Goodell performance tent.

Rose & the Bros, a southern dance groove band, will end the May 21 festivities at the Goodell performance tent with a set scheduled to start after 7 p.m.

The lineup of more than 25 bands also includes Jim Avett (father of two members of the acclaimed folk rock band The Avett Brothers), Richie & Rosie, Way Behind the Sun, Stewed Mulligan, Company Townes, Claire Stuczynski, Ron Yarosz & The Vehicle and more.

The Edinboro Art & Music Festival also features art show gallery openings, instrumental workshops, health and well-being workshops, local artisan and food vendors, as well as a children’s tent with interactive art workshops, sing-a-longs, drum-making and more.

All events are free and open to the public, organizers said.

For the first time this year, there will be a music-themed bike ride associated with the festival and 814 Outdoor Sports, with three rides to choose from: Staccato Ride, 15 miles at 400 feet elevation; Moderato Ride, 33 miles at 800 feet elevation; and Fortissimo Ride, 50 miles at 1,800 feet elevation. The Rhythm & Roll Ride starts at 9 a.m. on May 21; registration is at 8 a.m.

Full ride maps will be released soon, according to organizers. The ride will begin and end at the Northwest Tri County Intermediate Unit 5 parking lot, 252 Waterford St., just steps from the festival.​ Registration is $45.
