Funeral services for former first lady Rosalynn Carter begin next week, with multiple memorials planned in her native Georgia.

Carter died peacefully Sunday, with family by her side, at her home in Plains, Georgia, according to The Carter Center. She was 96.

Services began Monday, Nov. 27 and will continue through Wednesday, Nov. 29, in Atlanta and Sumter County, Georgia. The Carter Center late Sunday night released a schedule of events, providing guidance for how the public could watch, attend or pay their respects to the former first lady.

When are Rosalynn Carter's memorial services?

Memorials began Monday, Nov. 27 with a wreath-laying at Georgia Southwestern State University. Her motorcade then traveled to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, where she will lie in repose.

Services continue Tuesday with a tribute service at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church on the Emory University campus.

Former President Jimmy Carter is expected to attend the invitation-only service, along with President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden.

Also in attendance will be Vice President Kamala Harris, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Fellow former first ladies Melania Trump, Michelle Obama and Laura Bush will be in Atlanta as well.

The Carters' surviving grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers, according to the Carter Center. Tributes from family and friends include a reading by Mrs. Carter's daughter, Amy, and scripture passages from a grandson and three great-grandchildren.

When is Rosalynn Carter's funeral?

The former first lady's funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29 in Plains, Georgia.

Family and invited friends will gather for the service at Maranatha Baptist Church, after which Rosalynn Carter's casket will depart for burial at the Carter family residence.

Can the public attend Rosalynn Carter's funeral?

While the Wednesday funeral service is for family and invited friends, The Carter Center said the public is welcome in designated viewing areas along the family motorcade.

The motorcade will travel from the Maranatha Baptist Church to Bond Street and Highway 280 in downtown Plains.

"Everyone is expected to respect private property and park only in designated areas," The Carter Center said in a news release.

Monday, Nov. 27:

10:25 a.m.: The Carter family motorcade will arrive at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus. Mrs. Carter’s remains will be transferred to a hearse, accompanied by past and present members of her U.S. Secret Service detail.

10:40 a.m.: The motorcade will depart the grounds of the medical center on a public route to nearby Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia. The public is invited to pay respects along the motorcade route, which will be shared later.

11 a.m.: Motorcade arrives at the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex at Georgia Southwestern State University, where wreaths will be laid.

11:15 a.m.: Motorcade departs for The Carter Presidential Center in Atlanta.

3:15 p.m.: Arrival ceremony at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

3:30 p.m.: Repose service in lobby of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

6-10 p.m.: The Carter family invites members of the public to pay their respects as Mrs. Carter lies in repose at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum. Parking and a shuttle will be available at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta.

Tuesday, Nov. 28:

11:30-11:45 a.m.: Carter Presidential Center departure ceremony. Motorcade proceeds to Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University.

1 p.m.-2:30 p.m.: Tribute service at Glenn Memorial Church at Emory University with invited guests.

Wednesday, Nov. 29:

10:55 a.m.: The funeral procession arrives at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.

11 a.m.: A service for family and invited friends takes place at the church.

12:30 p.m.: The casket will be transferred to a hearse and depart for private interment at the Carter family residence.
