Rosary crusade prays for peace on Island Park in Schuylkill Haven

Oct. 15—SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Undeterred by a heavy downpour, worshippers turned out for an America Needs Fatima Rosary Rally at noon Saturday at Island Park.

About 50 people, clustered in the park pavilion, lit candles and laid roses at the foot of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima.

Beginning with a prayer to St. Francis and an introductory song, the assembly recited a litany based on the mysteries of the Catholic faith.

Clutching rosary beads, participants prayed for peace in a strife-torn world.

Hosted by parishioners from St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, the event was publicized as a public square rosary crusade.

Though predominantly a Catholic event, organizers invited members of all faiths to participate.

The event concluded with the singing of "Let There Be Peace on Earth," a 1955 hymn that has become an anthem for unconditional love.

Organizers said that many of the participants were expected to participate in the Pennsylvania March for Life on Monday in Harrisburg.
