Rosca de Reyes in El Paso? Here's where to buy to celebrate Epiphany on Jan. 6

Many El Paso families are starting to envision eating a slice of the candied Rosca de Reyes.

The bread, decorated to look like a king's crown, is now being made by El Paso area bakeries and food stores to celebrate the Epiphany on Friday. It commemorates the visit by the three kings to baby Jesus.

Typically, El Pasoans gather in family to cut a slice and see who gets the plastic baby inside. The baby means the person will have to throw a party on Feb. 2, also called Dia de la Candelaria (or Candlemas).

Here are some places around El Paso to order or purchase a Rosca de Reyes.

Bowie Bakery in the heart of the Segundo Barrio was busy this week baking over 1000 roscas for the Three Kings Day. The rosca features a small, plastic baby Jesus. Whoever finds the baby Jesus hosts a party for the epiphany.
