“The Bachelortte” had its season finale on Monday and Charity Lawson is now officially engaged to her fiancé — a 6-foot-7, Nigerian-born fitness expert and former Fresnan and Clovis West High School graduate now living in Brooklyn.

Dotun Olubeko was a standout contestant from the first episode.

He was a fan favorite and followers of the show agreed that pair had a spark. Professional TV spoiler Reality Steve hinted early on that the the 30-year-old would be one of the final three men remaining at the end of the season. His prediction held through the hometown episode, when Olubeko brought Lawson to Fresno to meet his family (his parents flew in from Nigeria). He also took her to a romantic drive-in movie (which was likely in Madera).

Photos of the proposal surfaced online over the weekend.

Lawson chose Olubeko over two others, Aaron Bryant and and Joey Graziadei.

According to People, the couple is looking to move in together as soon as possible, though they haven’t settled on a wedding date. It will likely be in 2025 or 2026 and include a traditional Nigerian wedding along with a more American one.

Other Fresnans to be featured on reality TV

Olubeko isn’t the only Fresnan to have had a run on reality TV.

Several local entrepreneurs have been featured on Shark Tank, including Matt Walsh in 2021 pitching his company Trophy Smack.

Last year, Deja Skye was the talk of the blogs after a standout performance on RuPual’s Drag Race during the infamous “Snatch Game.” The Fresno drag queen impersonated rapper Lil Jon.

Singer Alyssa Witrado competed on Team Gwen in Season 22 of NBC’s “The Voice.”

Also on “The Voice,” Visalia’s Rudy Parris was chosen by Blake Shelton in season three back in 2012, after singing a countrified version of the Police classic “Every Breath You Take.” He was eliminated in the Knockout Round, but returned for the season finale to help sing the Kiss tune “Rock and Roll All Night.”

Developer Will Dyck won the Fox reality competition show “Mr. Personality” in 2003. He was also on an episode of Ted Nugent’s “Wanted: Ted or Alive” in 2006.

Olubeko is not the only local to have competed on “The Bachelorette.”

Ryan Park was on the season 15 of the show in 2011, vying for the heart of Ashley Hebert. He was eliminated in week seven. Before that Kasey Kahl, an advertising account executive from Clovis, competed on the sixth edition of the reality show, and ultimately sent home by Ali Fedotowsky.
