Rose-growing tips, DIY, home design, wine: What not to miss at the Erie Home & Garden Expo
While the planting season is still a couple of months away, it's not too early to start planning your gardens and home renovations. Find all the help you need at the Erie Home & Garden Expo this weekend at the Bayfront Convention Center. Don't have spring/summer plans for your home? Visit for inspiration and a dose of spring fever.
The show is open Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Adult day passes are $7 and children 10 and younger get in free. For information, or to purchase tickets, visit eriepromotions.com/erie-home-and-garden.
Here are some highlights:
1. Master gardener seminar series
Saturday
11 a.m.: Journey of the Monarch: Cyndy Marks, master gardener, explains and explores the wintering monarch butterfly in Mexico.
1 p.m.: Proper Tree Planting & Aftercare: Mark Spitulski, arborist and owner of MKS Arborist Services, will cover tree choices for urban landscaping, planting/selection techniques, common problems with urban trees and how to protect trees during remodeling and construction.
3 p.m.: Growing Roses, The Good, Bad & Problems: Rebecca Adair, master gardener, will cover growing roses, including the good, the bad and the problems.
Sunday
1 p.m.: Pruning Tips with Steve Laskowski, Erie County service forester, will explain how to prune fruit trees, hydrangeas, roses, lilacs and more.
2:30 p.m.: The Invasive Spotted Lantern Fly with Rick Godzwa, master gardener. He will speak about the invasive spotted lantern fly and what the public can do to identify and report to the appropriate department.
2. 2023 Designer Challenge
Local designers will face off in a home design contest. Competitors include Blue Lily Home Staging and Design, Nest and Jolie and Spaces by Steffi G.
3. Wine and food pavilion
Enjoy New York wines, sample food and shop for unique items. Vendors include Dog-Gone-its, Lake Erie Variety, Thompson’s EO Creations, Norwex, Courtyard Wineries, Country Hammer Moonshine, Tupperware – Best, Tastefully Simple, Vinegars Etc., Merritt Estate Winery, Designs in Metal, Scentsy Wickless Candles, Foraged with Faith.
