Roseanne Barr delivered a meandering and at times erratic speech in Phoenix at the annual conference for the conservative group Turning Point USA.

Barr, an actress and comedian, has been embraced by some conservatives in recent years because of her staunch support of former President Donald Trump. She also made headlines when ABC canceled the revival of her hit sitcom, 'Roseanne,' after Barr penned a social-media message that was widely criticized as racist.

Several minutes into her speech on Saturday, Barr began a passionate and halting rant, during which applause from the crowd gradually waned.

“If we don’t stop these horrible, Communist — Do you hear me? I’m asking you to hear me,” Barr began.

“Stalinist. Communists. With a huge helping of Nazi fascist thrown in. Plus one caliphate to replace every Christian democracy on Earth now,” she shouted, met with several seconds of silence in the auditorium.

“Occupy. Do you know that?” she continued, an apparent reference to the left-wing populist Occupy Wall Street movement, in which Barr took part. “We want the truth. We don’t care what party is wrong. We know they’re both nothing but crap.”

By Monday, a video clip of the speech had circulated widely on social media.

Applause resumed as Barr changed the topic to the security of U.S. elections, a familiar theme at the Turning Point USA conference. She echoed calls to conduct elections through paper ballots rather than voting machines, which have been repeated by Trump.

She suggested her support for laws that would require proof of citizenship in order to register to vote. A judge recently dismantled such a law in Arizona, signed by former Gov. Doug Ducey, saying that federal laws govern proof of citizenship for voters, not state laws.

“We just want the truth. And we deserve to have an election with paper ballots,” she said. “And with proper identification to prove that you are a citizen of this country.”

Also during her speech, Barr read excerpts by the revolutionary-era political theorist and activist Thomas Paine, and, apparently mocking the spread of dubious information on the Internet, asked the crowd whether we are getting invaded by a “villain from other planets” or by “the Nazi breakaway continent down there in Antarctica.”

“I cannot believe I accidentally deleted my speech when making my last edit just before walking out,” Barr said Sunday in a social media post. “I had to wing it last night, it was so scary. But I’m glad you guys liked it!”
