The 90-year-old wrought iron fence at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle is being replaced.

The Board of Directors of Roselawn Memorial Park recently held its 94th Annual Meeting at the cemetery on South Dixie Highway in LaSalle. On the agenda was the authorization for completion of several major projects this summer, said Michael Huggins, General Manager.

Board members reviewed details for a project to replace the front cemetery fence that is a quarter-mile long. The aging wrought iron fence has been a landmark along South Dixie Highway since it was installed in 1932. Ninety years of exposure to the elements, including salt spray from the road, have made the original fence structurally unsound in many places, Huggins said.

Lake Erie Fence Company of LaSalle was awarded the contract to replace the fence last fall. Work on the project began recently. The cemetery gates will be wider as part of the project.

Board members also signed an agreement to pave over one mile of roads within the cemetery and upgrade several mechanical systems in cemetery buildings.

The election of officers also took place at the meeting. The seven-member board was reelected which included officers Robert Neely, President and CEO; Merel Keck Jr., Vice President; Ronald Herr, Secretary/Treasurer and directors Charles McIntyre III, Dale Zorn, Robert Sieb, and Shawn Siddall.

The members of Roselawn’s board remain committed to providing a first class memorial park for the residents of Monroe County.
