Republican Congressman Matt Rosendale drew both groans and laughs in the House Chamber on January 6 as he backed Rep Kevin Hern for Speaker of the House, rather than Kevin McCarthy, but took a long pause after “Kevin” before saying the last name.

When called to vote, Rosendale, who represents Montana, stood up and shouted “Kevin,” then looked around and smiled at Republican colleagues, before saying “Hern.” Rosendale smiled and laughed as he stepped back again.

Hern represents Oklahoma.

The moment occurred in the 12th round of voting for speaker, during which leading candidate Rep Kevin McCarthy of California secured 14 more votes from right-wing holdouts in his party, but still failed to reach the required majority. Credit: C-SPAN via Storyful
