Ross County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Southern Ohio

ROSS COUNTY― Ross County has a lower unemployment rate than 70% of other Ohio counties.

On the ranking report of Ohio Unemployment Rates by County from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, Ross County is ranked 62 of 88 with an unemployment rate of 3.4%.

The Ohio unemployment rate is 3.4%, meaning Ross County is in line with the rest of the state.

Tammy Eallonardo, Director of Greater Chillicothe & Ross County Development, said Ross County's unemployment rate rose slightly, rising from 3.1% in May to 3.4% in June.

Ross County has a lower rate of unemployment than most surrounding counties. Scioto County is in the top 6 counties with the worst unemployment rates, with a rate of 4.9% of residents unemployed. Meigs County has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 5.3%.

Highland County is also among the highest unemployment rates in the state with a rank of 10 of 88 and an unemployment rate of 4.7%. Following directly behind Highland is Jackson at spot 11 with an unemployment rate of 4.5%. Pike County sits at 15 on the list and also has an unemployment rate of 4.5%.

Vinton County sits at 17 of 88 and has an unemployment rate of 4.4%. Fayette County is 31 of 88 on the list and has an unemployment rate of 4%.

Hocking and Pickaway Counties are more in line with Ross County's unemployment rate, with Hocking County sitting at spot 56 of 88 with an unemployment rate of 3.5% and Pickaway County sitting at spot 61 of 88 with an unemployment rate of 3.4%.

The only counties south of Ross County with a lower unemployment rate are Clermont and Warren Counties.
