Joe Ross not worth adding, despite recent strong start

Despite coming off of his best start of the year, Joe Ross is not worth adding to fantasy rosters according to Colin Henderson.

Video Transcript

COLIN HENDERSON: National starter Joe Ross had his best outing of the season on Sunday, going eight scoreless innings against the Giants, scattering five hits, and striking out nine without issuing a free pass. The start improved this season line to three and six with a 4.19 ERA, 1.23 whip, and a 60 to 24 K [INAUDIBLE] ratio across 12 starts. The 20-year-old is glad June is here as he went on 0 and four an even 6.0 ERA in the month of May.

Ross has ditched his curveball this year up into focus on throwing more sinkers and sliders, which hitters are hitting just 220 and 198 against respectively. Accumulating 53 of his 60 strikeouts on those two pitches. While he was dominant on Sunday, don't go running out to add him to your rosters just yet. Until he has more starts like that one, he still falls into the streaming tier, as h has not shown enough consistency nor does he have a strong enough offense or defense behind him to warrant a roster spot.

Ross should be used against righty heavy lineups on a case-by-case basis for now, as his ERA is nearly a full run lower against righties and lefties. Pick and choose your spots starts wisely, but he doesn't need to take up a roster spot unless you're in a super deep league.
