May 19 meeting

KEY ACTION Discussed the situation with the police department and what can be done. Police Chief Donna Patterson had surgery on her arm and still has not returned. She will be starting physical therapy in the next week. Mayor Mitch Belknap said he will call former Police Chief Curt Gipe, who offered to help find a replacement for Patterson. Gipe is currently the Police Chief for Wilmot and Beach City.

DISCUSSION: Belknap said he contacted W.E. Quicksall & Associates, Inc. to learn what can be done to streets that need resurfacing. They suggested a three-phase project that could add up to approximately $600,000 with the village responsible for 25% of all costs. He is going to check with Tuscarawas County Engineer Joe Bachman about the cost of chip and seal.

OTHER ACTION

• Reviewed a long list of properties that need to receive a clean up notice.

• Mayor Belknap said he continues to try to get estimates for repairs to the garage, which includes replacing all of the steel and installing new doors.

• Approved the absences of Councilwoman Amanda Leggett and Council President Justin Eggerton.

• Need to find the key to unlock trash cans at the park so they can be emptied.

• Approved the purchase of a small cabinet that can lock for the storage of cleaning supplies.

• Reminded residents that while mowing, if you blow grass out into the street, it is in violation of state Law and you could receive a fine.

• Belknap acknowledged that potholes were filled on Short and School streets by council on March 13. Councilman Bill Michalik said 8 tons of asphalt was used.

• Discussed cleaning the ditch out along School St. and possibly adding another catch basin to the area to prevent road deterioration.

• Memorial Day Plans are as follows: A parade will step off at 10 a.m. and proceed to the park where a Memorial Service will be held at 10:30. Following the service will be a Festival featuring food trucks, a water balloon fight, a baseball game between Roswell and Midvale, a cruise-In that starts at 11, Spikeman will be on hand from 11-3 p.m.
