Rotary Club of Ithaca starts Share the Warmth campaign. Here's where you can donate

The Rotary Club of Ithaca has started collecting warm winter clothing for its annual “Share the Warmth” campaign.

Donations of clean, new or gently used winter clothing will be collected in red bins at 20 sites across Tompkins County, then sorted and distributed across the area by volunteers from the Ithaca, Dryden and Trumansburg Rotary Clubs; Cornell University; Ithaca College; Finger Lakes ReUse; and Catholic Charities of Tompkins and Tioga counties.

Ithaca Rotary members Ray Brisson, Linda Brisson and Richard Kops work on sorting clothes donated for the club's "Share the Warmth" campaign at Immaculate Conception School in Ithaca.

Collection bin locations can be found at the Agway, True Value, and Home Center inside Cayuga Shopping Center, BorgWarner Morse Systems on Warren Road, CFCU Community Credit Unions main branches, and at various locations on Ithaca College and Cornell campuses. A full list of locations is available on the rotary club's website and donations will be accepted through Nov, 20.

About the program

Share the Warmth was created by the Rotary Club of Ithaca in 1987 and began on the Cornell campus. The effort expanded in 1993 throughout the county, with donated clothing distributed by Catholic Charities of Tompkins and Tioga free of charge to individuals who need the clothing for the winter.

This year, there’s a special need for children’s outerwear, according to a statement the club, but adult warm clothing is needed as well.
