The Rotary Club of Loudonville presented a check for $3,000 to the Loudonville-Perrysville School Foundation, along with three $1,000 scholarship checks to Loudonville High School seniors at its meeting Thursday, May 19.

Foundation President Mike Bandy accepted the check from Rotary President Brian Hartzell.

The gift was Rotary’s part in helping the foundation meet the $100,000 challenge grant presented to it by the Ramser family last winter.

Bandy said the response to the Ramser challenge has been incredible.

“With this and other recent donations, we have raised nearly $190,000,” Bandy told Rotarians, “including donations from 112 persons or families donating to the foundation for the first time. Mark Ramser, who presented the challenge to us, emphasized the importance of getting people to donate to the foundation for the first time, and for regular donors to increase their donations. Both of these things have happened."

Bandy said that an additional challenge has been presented to the Foundation from the Hugo and Mabel Young Foundation, a challenge that could raise the Foundation’s total receipts to $300,000 for 2022.

“If that happens, we can increase our grant supports to the schools manyfold, up to $1,000 for teacher mini-grants and total annual grants up to $30,000 per year, all of this made possible because of the generous support of a lot of people in our community,” Bandy said.

Zuercher will attend Ohio State University and plans to major in aeronautical engineering.

Kauffman will attend Hiram University and plans to major in neuroscience.

Money for the Foundation gift and scholarships was raised through major Rotary projects, including cheese and bologna sales at Malabar Farm Heritage Days, OSU raffle proceeds and the annual Rotary Flower Sale.
