Roughrider Days Rodeo completed at Stark County Fairgrounds

Jun. 26—DICKINSON — The Roughrider Days Festival got its traditional start last weekend with the Youth Rodeo at Stark County Fairgrounds and the adult version jumped out of the gate with a bang on Friday, June 23 and ran through Sunday, June 25. Hundreds of people were in the stands for all three days enjoying the preeminent Roughrider Days festivities, and the bareback-riding, breakaway-roping, steer-wrestling, team-roping and saddle-bronc competitors gave everybody a show worthy of the name.

The specialty act and barrel-man for the events was "Wild Child" Troy Lerwill.

Among the leaders after Friday night are bareback-riding leaders: 1. Luke Higgins, 75 points on Korkow Rodeos' No. 727; 2. Kaden Clark, 58; no other qualified rides.

Steer-wrestling leaders were: 1. Kaden Wooters, 3.9 seconds; 2. Rope Smith, 4.7; 3. Cyler Dowling, 5.3; 4. Nick Goelema, 6.1; no other qualified runs.

Team-roping leaders were: 1. Shay Dixon Carroll/Evan Arnold, 5.3 seconds; 2. Guy Howell/Riley Curuchet, 5.8; 3. Kelly Roshau/P-Money Monson, 11.5; 4. Jade Schmidt/Conner Herren, 15.7; no other qualified runs.

Saddle-bronc-riding leaders were: 1. Cole Elshere, 84 points on Korkow Rodeos' Innocent Dream; 2. Houston Brown, 79; 3. Sawyer Eirikson, 77; 4. Dylan Schofield, 69; no other qualified rides.

Tie-down-roping leaders were: 1. Chase Lako, 11.8 seconds; 2. Grey Gilbert, 12.2; 3. Peyton Hawtin, 13.9; 4. Justin Bridgeman, 20.5; no other qualified runs.

Barrel-racing leaders were: 1. Amanda Lewis, 17.51 seconds; 2. Calyssa Kindred, 17.65; 3. Mika Guty, 17.77; 4. Patty Finney, 17.81; 5. D'Ann Gehlsen, 17.94; 6. Layne Larson, 18.00.

When the events concluded on Sunday, the results were:

The total payoff was $116,768, and the stock contractor is Korkow Rodeos. The rodeo secretary is Misty Korkow Clair, and officials are Bud Pauley, Mark McKinlay and Carl Burkholder. The timers are Carol Korkow and Brienna Korkow, and the announcer is Jody Carper. Among the bullfighters are Zachary Call and Gus Kronberg and the clown/barrelman is Troy Lerwill, with the flankmen Garrett Burruss and Daniel Yellow Hawk and chute bosses T.J. Korkow and Troy Heinert. The pickup men are Troy Heinert and Joe Wilson and the music director is Ben Bendele III.

The concert headliner on July 3 will be country singer Dustin Lynch, and the Independence Day fireworks will be hosted at the Sanford Sports Complex at 10 p.m. on July 4, with the Demolition Derby hosted at the Stark County Fairgrounds on July 9 to wrap up the events.
