A roundabout is coming to these York County roads. But stop signs will come first
Before a roundabout can go in to help traffic at one York County intersection, drivers will have to stop.
The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced new stop signs will go in Aug. 3 at the Campbell and Paraham roads intersection in Lake Wylie. There will be a temporary road closure to install the new signs.
The temporary setup will be a four-way stop.
The final answer at the intersection is a single-lane roundabout. According to the SCDOT traffic safety office, similar roundabouts reduce crashes with injuries by 79% and total crashes by 64%. A state highway safety improvement program that identifies locations with high crash rates or patterns tabbed the York County intersection for the fix.
The new roundabout comes just west of property where Kansas company QTS Data Centers recently bought hundreds of acres of property for more than $10 million. York County has a potential $1 billion economic development project linked to the property.

The roundabout project predates the economic development project in the area. SCDOT held a public meeting with area residents on the road work back in summer 2021.
