Roundup: Apponequet boys basketball captures upset win over Middleboro

Here's a look at the high school scores and highlights from Monday's action on the SouthCoast.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Apponequet 49, Middleboro 48

The Lakers (3-7, 2-4 SCC) captured the upset road win with an intense defense and balanced offense. Nate Levesque had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Logan Miller added seven points and eight rebounds. Will Levrault had 11 points and Jackson Gagnier added eight points. “Jackson Gagnier led the Lakers with intensity and focus while Levesque and Miller were tireless on the boards,” said Apponequet head coach Jim Cabucio.

Cardinal Spellman 57, Bishop Stang 45

Ben Tingley Prince had a strong all-around game for the Spartans with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jacob Seiders added nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Upper Cape 51, Wareham 26

Laura Pinkston scored 10 points and had a handful of blocks to lead the Vikings (4-8, 0-6 SCC). “Even in a new defensive scheme, she immediately finds herself at home and is a defensive standout,” said Wareham head coach Kyle Erha. “We’re working on some new things defensively that we saw start to come together as the game went on, but fell very flat early.”

Diman 59, Old Colony 28

Hailey Goldstein scored a team-high eight points while Isabel Hougasian and Brooke Jason each had seven points. The Cougars (5-4, 3-1 MAC) host Cape Cod Tech on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

WRESTLING

New Bedford 51, Durfee 0

Winning for the Whalers (9-2, 2-1 SEC) were Alex Teixiera, Eric Boucher, Nate Caron, Miguel Gomes, Daniel Pexioto, Mitch Thompson, Tayel Guzman, Jose Bonilla and Luis Lopez.

BOYS HOCKEY

Silver Lake 3, Dartmouth 2

Maddux Carreiro and Damien Medeiros each scored a goal while Evan Moniz, Josh Nelson, Reid Martin and Aidan Cruz had assists. Ashton Machado made 15 saves for Dartmouth (5-3), which visits Somerset Berkley on Wednesday.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Old Rochester 87, Apponequet 68

Winning for Apponequet (1-7) were Emma Kelliher in the 200 freestyle (2:19.18) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.62), Devin Sylvia in the 100 butterfly (state-qualifying time of 1:04.98) and 100 backstroke (state-qualifying time of 1:07.41) and Lauren Bernaiche in the 100 freestyle (1:03.24). Swimming a 27.03 in the lead-off leg of the 200 freestyle relay, Sylvia qualified for sectionals in the 50 freestyle.

BOYS SWIMMING

Old Rochester 82, Apponequet 64

Old Rochester’s 200 freestyle relay team of Sean Lund, Sam Harris, Jaymison Gunschel and Skip Holmes qualified for sectionals as the Bulldogs improved to 3-1. For Apponequet (2-6), Colin Belmore won both the 50 freestyle (24.04) and 100 butterfly (state-qualifying time of 57.91) while Alex Keefe was first in the 500 freestyle (5:35.42) and Hunter Owen won the 100 backstroke (1:09.99) and Eugene Jung was fastest in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.14). Belmore, Owen, Jung and Keefe teamed up to win the 400 freestyle relay (3:57.51).
