Roundup: Chillicothe hosts Cavalier Invitational track meet

TRACK AND FIELD

Cavalier Invitational: Chillicothe hosted an eight-team track meet on Thursday, and it cleaned house after sweeping both the boys and girls events.

Among boys teams, Chillicothe took first after earning 130 points. Zane Trace took second (109.5), Paint Valley placed fourth (80), Adena placed sixth (61) and Huntington took seventh (60.5). Among girls teams, Chillicothe earned 165 points to also take first place. Adena placed third (101), Zane Trace placed fifth (48), Huntington placed sixth (44) and Paint Valley took eighth (17).

First place finishers for the boys teams: 100-meter dash: Cole Miller of Paint Valley (11.45); 200-meter dash: Cole Miller of Paint Valley (23.06); 400-meter dash: Lucas Rinehart of Chillicothe (50.86); 1600-meter run: Ryan Richendollar of Adena (4:49.85); 300-meter hurdles: Aaron Valentine of Chillicothe (42.77); 4x100: Chillicothe (44.97); 4x200: Chillicothe (1:33.10); 4x400: Chillicothe (3:34.74); high jump: Tre King of Chillicothe (6-4); long jump: Cole Miller of Paint Valley (21-4 1/2); discus: Nalin Robinson of Zane Trace (148-6); shot put: Spencer Brower of Zane Trace (50-4 1/2).

First place finishers for the girls teams: 400-meter dash: Kiera Archer of Chillicothe (1:01.88); 1600-meter run: Alana McKenzie of Chillicothe (5:59.11); 100-meter hurdles: Jacey Harding of Chillicothe (16.27); 300-meter hurdles: Jacey Harding of Chillicothe (47.79); 4x200: Chillicothe (1:52.31); discus: Sydney Foglesong of Adena (133-6); shot put: Sydney Foglesong of Adena (39-7 1/2); seated shot put; Brooke Hopkins of Huntington (10-11).

BASEBALL

Oak Hill 15, Adena 14: The Warriors suffered a heartbreaking loss after a shootout with the Oaks on Thursday night. Although the Warriors combined for 12 hits, including six extra-base hits, the Oaks used five runs in the fifth inning to stick out the win.

Andrew Vickers had a phenomenal night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two triples, a double, two RBIs and three runs. Cameron Stoops went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run, while Christian Heath hit a double, batted in two runs and scored twice. Austin Magill plugged two hits and two RBIs, and David Magill picked up a hit and batted in two runs.

Washington 5, Chillicothe 1: The Cavaliers held the Blue Lions scoreless through three innings before giving four runs in the fourth inning during a conference loss on Thursday. Trent Wade, despite taking a loss on the mound, pitched solid after allowing four earned runs on four hits and striking out three during his three and two-thirds innings of work. Wade was relieved by Jack Oyer, who allowed two hits and one run for the remainder of the game.

Xander McConnell recorded a hit for the Cavaliers, and TJ Barr scored their lone run after reaching home after Aiden Spaulding reached first on an error.

SOFTBALL

Chillicothe 7, Adena 6: The Cavaliers scored six runs in the fourth inning to pick up a win over the Warriors on Thursday. Morgan Webb pitched a complete game in the circle, allowing 10 hits and six runs while striking out four in the process. Webb also went 2-for-3 with a double and a run while at the plate.

Mikayla Spaulding led the Cavaliers after going 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBIs and a run. Bella Riffe hit a home run of her own, and Julie Lemaster hit two doubles. Webb, Spaulding and Serenity Mendenhall all stole a base as well.

Caelan Miner went 1-for-4 for the Warriors with a home run and three RBIs on Thursday. Kiera Williams went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, an RBI and two runs. Adriana Guarnieri also hit a double and scored a run.

Unioto 9, Fairfield 7: The Shermans took down the Lions on Thursday after scoring two runs to break a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ava Dettwiller hit a home run for the second time in two games to bat in three runs, and Hannah Hull tagged on another home run to go 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and a run.

Megan Miller picked up two hits and batted in two runs, and Alexis Book tallied three hits and scored a run. Abbie Marshall scored two runs and notched a hit, and Emma Specht logged one hit, one RBI and one run.

Hillsboro 6, Westfall 5: The Mustangs came up just short after giving up five runs through the final three innings in a loss to Hillsboro on Thursday. Anna Snyder pitched a complete game in the loss, giving up 11 hits and three earned runs while striking out five.

Ava Heath batted in three runs and scored once for Westfall after going 3-for-4 with a double. Delana Landefeld went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs, and Makayla Cook tacked on a hit and an RBI. Snyder also went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run.

VOLLEYBALL

Chillicothe 3, Unioto 0: The Cavaliers rebounded from their loss to Bishop Hartley on Wednesday by sweeping the Shermans 25-6, 25-5, 25-15 on Thursday night. Mercer Cutright led the Cavaliers with 10 kills, Daniel Rourke posted nine kills and An Nguyen added five.

Lucas Sprague and Aaron Ballentine led the team in assists with 22 and 11, respectively. Ballentine also tied Isaac Herlihy with a team-high seven aces. Justin Rubia added a team-best 25 digs, Cutright picked up 10 and Rey Escalera added on nine.

Westfall 3, Whetstone 0: The Mustangs avenged their previous loss to the Braves with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-18 sweep in three sets on Thursday. Dawson Spaniol led the team in kills after racking up 11 against the Braves, while also posting an ace and two digs. Jackson Thomas led the team in three categories after tallying 14 assists, five aces and four total blocks, and he also added four kills and three digs.

Avry Justice notched a team-high eight digs in the win, and he was followed by Alec Martin, who ended the match with five. Martin also posted eight assists and two kills. Colton Spaniol logged four aces and four kills, and Drew Bowers put up three total blocks and two kills.
