The crash occurred around 5:20 a.m. along Pleasant Valley Road east of Dodge Road, just outside Oxnard city limits.

The Port Hueneme woman, 22, was driving a 2008 Honda Civic westbound on Pleasant Valley Road. The Oxnard man, 40, was heading eastbound in a 1995 Ford Explorer.

The crash happened when the Honda crossed the center divide and collided with the Ford head-on. The crash caused major injuries to both drivers.

The Oxnard man was transported to St. John's Regional Medical Center, while the Port Hueneme woman was taken via ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to CHP. An update to her condition was unavailable Monday.

CHP said the woman was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI but was released to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ventura-area CHP office. Anyone with information for investigators is asked to call 805-662-2640.

None of the drivers were arrested on suspicion of DUI, though Ventura police did conduct 13 standard field sobriety tests. Eight of the drivers received citations for being unlicensed drivers and one driver was cited for lacking a motorcycle endorsement on the driver's license.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Two arrested in connection with Oxnard burglary

The Oxnard Police Department arrested two suspects in connection with a mobile phone store burglary last week.

The burglary happened on Dec. 13 at Metro PCS, 400 W. Wooley Road, according to police.

A male suspect broke a window at the store, entered the business and fled with several cell phones and other merchandise.

Detectives investigated the incident and served a search warrant at a home in the 1100 block of South L Street as a possible location for the stolen phones. After serving the warrant, police recovered most of the stolen property from the store as well as a stolen vehicle, a 2002 Audi TT.

Officers arrested a 28-year-old Oxnard man and a 37-year-old Oxnard woman at the residence. The woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property and was released from jail on Saturday, according to online jail records. The man remains in custody on suspicion of burglary and receiving a stolen vehicle, both felonies, and is due back in court on Wednesday for arraignment.
