Candidates sought for vacant Dover council-at-large position

DOVER – The Tuscarawas County Republican Party Central Committee is accepting applications through Friday for candidates to fill the vacant council-at-large position in the city of Dover. Applicants must live within the Dover city corporation limits and have voter registration with the Republican party.

Dover Public Library will offer teen event Friday

DOVER – The Dover Public Library, 525 N. Walnut St., will have a Game On Lock-In for teens from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, for teens entering grades 6-12. Participants are welcome to bring board games and snacks to share. Registration is limited to 20, and a permission slip is required. High school football preview night is Aug. 1

DOVER – The Tuscarawas County Sports Hall of Fame will sponsor the first Tuscarawas County High School Football Preview Night on Aug. 1 at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, 425 Prospect St.

All nine head football coaches from Tuscarawas County will speak and will provide the community with a preview of the upcoming season, impact players on the roster, the schedule, etc. Hank Keathley will moderate the event. People attending can ask the coaches questions about the upcoming season. A meal will be provided. Doors will open at 4:45 p.m., the meal will begin at 5:15 p.m., and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Outdoor cabaret-style performance planned at Reeves Museum

DOVER – The Reeves Museum, 325 E. Iron Ave., will host Songs on the Steps, an outdoor cabaret-style performance featuring local community talent, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Genealogy research help available

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The Main Library of the Tuscarawas County Public Library System, 121 Fair Ave. NW, is offering genealogy classes for people at all stages of research.

At 6 p.m. Monday, genealogist Deb Kitko will give tips for finding an ancestor who has left no apparent paper trail.

At 3:30 p.m. Friday, library staff will teach the basics of findagrave.com, a genealogy website.

A genealogy specialist can assist with your research in a 90-minute session. Sessions are available between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday.

Learn about court-appointed special advocates

NEW PHILADELPHIA – CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates of Tuscarawas and Harrison Counties, will hold an information session on what CASA is and how to become a trained volunteer. The event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Meeting Room A at the New Philadelphia branch of the Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Ave. NW.

NAMI plans family and friends night at Tuscora Park

NEW PHILADELPHIA – The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Tuscarawas and Carroll County will hold a Family and Friends Night from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tuscora Park Dining Hall, 161 Tuscora Ave. NW. There will be food, cornhole and kids ride tickets, while supplies last.

Blood drive on Friday at community center

Zoar will have antiques show next weekend

ZOAR – Zoar Village will host its annual antiques show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 30. Visitors can tour historic buildings, shop from artisans and antique dealers, enjoy the juried craft and art show, and watch demonstrators such as weaving, spinning, blacksmithing, butter churning and kraut-making throughout the village.

Additional attractions include the Tuscarawas County Art Guild, which will be set up in the spring lot, horse-drawn wagon rides, children’s period amusements and a classic car show on July 30.
