Disturbances at Simi football field

SIMI VALLEY — Authorities in Simi Valley reported a pair of unrelated incidents at Simi Valley High School's football stadium overnight.

During Friday night's football game, a disturbance caused by several Royal High School students escalated, prompting deployment of a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter to clear out a crowd, according to the Simi Valley Police Department.

The Royal High students had been told to leave the campus after causing a disturbance during Simi Valley High's game against Ventura High School. The campus is at 5400 Cochran St.

The students returned a short time later with a larger group, according to police, and began instigating fights.

A school resource officer requested help, bringing more Simi Valley police officers to the scene, with the crowd ultimately dispersed with help from the LAPD helicopter.

No weapons or serious injuries were reported.

Two juveniles were arrested, cited and released to their parents, authorities said. Both were arrested on suspicion of trespassing and one was also arrested on suspicion of battery.

Separately, at around 2 a.m. Saturday, several residents reported what sounded like gunshots near the Simi Valley High campus.

Officers found remnants of "large fireworks" that had apparently been set off on the football field.

The explosion caused burn marks and an indentation in the turf, authorities said.

The Pioneers had earlier won their Friday night game against visiting Ventura High .

No suspects in the fireworks case had been apprehended as of midday Saturday, said Sgt. Tim Wedemeyer.

Anyone with information on the fireworks incident is asked to call Officer Julio Mora at 805-583-6950.

CAMARILLO — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash with a vehicle in Camarillo late Saturday morning, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

The accident was reported shortly before 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of Santa Rosa and Woodcreek roads.

The sheriff's initial investigation indicates the driver of an SUV was making a turn when the vehicles collided, said Capt. Ron Chips. The sheriff's agency is contracted to provide police services in Camarillo.

The motorcycle rider, a 24-year-old Simi Valley man, was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Regional Medical Center with major injuries, he said.

On Saturday night, authorities said the rider was in serious but stable condition at the hospital.

A sheriff's official said Saturday night the agency's preliminary investigation indicated the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Santa Rosa Road. As the rider approached the intersection with Woodcreek, the traffic light had turned red and the rider appeared to have run the red light.

The driver of the SUV had been going eastbound on Santa Rosa and was turning left onto Woodcreek, with the green light, when two collided, authorities said of the preliminary findings.

The SUV driver, a 56-year-old Camarillo woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call the Camarillo Police Department at 805-388-5100.

VENTURA COUNTY — A Thousand Oaks man pleaded guilty Thursday in a sex crimes case involving teen girls.
