Roundup: GC, WM cross country teams win; Eagles' golf team 2nd at Meadville Invitational

Sep. 22—BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

— Grove City 15, Sharon 50 — At Memorial Park, Grove City, the host Eagles eased to the win. Caleb Hawke (17:40) led 7 Eagles to the finish line.

— West Middlesex 26, Lakeview 31; West Middlesex 18, Jamestown 46 — At Stoneboro, the Big Reds captured 6 of the top 10 spots in the win.

Colson Jenkins of Lakeview finished 1st overall in 17:36. Giovanni Rococi was runner-up for West Middlesex in 18:04. Riley Runyon (18:31) led Jamestown with a 5th-place finish.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

— Grove City 15, Sharon 50 — Abby Steffler secured 1st in a time of 20:07, as she edged Sharon's Natalie Ostheimer (20:32) and Abby Douglas (21:26) to the tape at Grove City's Memorial Park.

— Lakeview 15, West Middlesex 50; Jamestown 15, West Middlesex 50 — At Stoneboro, Claire Anderson of Jamestown, who won the individual title at the recent Big Red Invitational, took 1st in a time of 20:08.

Lia Bartholomew (20:45) of West Middlesex placed 2nd while Kady Alexander (21:24) finished 4th for Lakeview.

Meadville Marquette Bank Invitational

Grove City (339) placed 2nd on Tuesday at The Country Club of Meadville. Union City captured the team title with a 321. Rounding out the top 5 were Cathedral Prep (343), Corry (345), and McDowell (346).

West Middlesex (355) tied for 8th place, Hickory (363) finished 13th, Greenville (389) was 17th, and Slippery Rock (396) placed 18th.

Union City's Josh James shot an even par 72 to earn medalist honors. Saegertown's Dylan Flinchbaugh (74) finished 2nd.

Slippery Rock's Jacob Wolak led the locals with a 5th-place finish after shooting a 78. Grove City's Toby Matson (80) placed 9th and teammate Trenton Nemec (84) finished 19th.

Zach Lanshcak (85) of Hickory placed 23rd and West Middlesex's Bowen Briggs (86) and Caden Bender (86) placed 27th and 28th.
