Roundup: Granville girls lacrosse defeats rival Columbus Academy

Amelia Sarap and Kyra Studer combined for 12 goals Tuesday, lifting the Granville girls lacrosse team to a 13-10 home victory against rival Columbus Academy.

Sarap totaled seven goals and Studer five, and Bella Rockwell added a goal for the Blue Aces (5-1), who avenged a pair of 2022 losses, including a postseason defeat, to the Vikings. Grace Lilly made eight saves.

SOFTBALL

Heath blanks Lakewood

Renae Cunningham fired a no-hitter, striking out eight without a walk, pitching Heath to a 4-0 victory at Lakewood in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Karli Staley finished 3 for 3 with a run scored for the Bulldogs (9-5, 6-1). Kyndall Spicer added a hit, a run scored and an RBI and Cunningham a hit and a run scored.

Becca Streets struck out three in a five-hitter for the Lancers (7-6-1, 3-4).

Johnstown beats NC

Laney Zak hit a three-run double, sparking Johnstown to an 11-4 victory against visiting Newark Catholic in LCL-Cardinal play.

Addie Triplett added three hits, including two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs, Dakota Staffan three hits, a run scored and two RBIs and Makayla Fain a hit, two runs scored and an RBI for the Johnnies (11-1, 7-1). Macy Walters struck out seven and allowed no earned runs in six innings.

Kami Diaz and Maris Knowlton had two hits and two runs scored apiece for the Green Wave (6-6, 3-3). Avery Nagel added two hits and two RBIs.

Watkins wins

Taylor Gerhardt totaled four hits, including two triples and a double, three runs scored and an RBI for Watkins Memorial in a 16-4 victory at Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.

Christina Kilkenny, Jordyn Wycuff, Maleya Thompson and Cortney Dobbs added three hits each with Wycuff scoring four runs and Dobbs driving in three for the top-ranked Warriors (14-0, 5-0). Kendal Tellings struck out four and allowed three earned runs.

Syd Stout tripled and singled, scored a run and drove in one for the Hornets (9-5, 3-4). Alissa West added a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Granville wins at home

Emily Travis had three hits, including a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs, powering Granville to a 7-1 victory against visiting Bloom-Carroll.

Taylor Warehime and Ally Ernsberger added three hits, including a double, and an RBI apiece and Morgan Layne two hits and a run scored for the Blue Aces (10-3). Ernsberger struck out four in a five-hitter.

Valley rolls

Taylor Penick and Addison Justice combined for nine hits, eight runs scored and seven RBIs for Licking Valley in a 28-6 victory against visiting Maysville.

Rylie Dennis added two hits, two runs scored and four RBIs, Liz Korns two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs and Zoey Shaw a hit, two runs scored and three RBIs for the Panthers (5-5).

Newark edged

A five-run fifth inning got Newark back in the game, but the Wildcats (11-6, 2-1) were unable to get over the hump in a 6-5 loss at Central Crossing in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

BASEBALL

NC wins at Johnstown

Eli Morris had a hit and two RBIs at the plate and struck out three in a four-hitter, leading Newark Catholic to a 4-2 victory at Johnstown in LCL-Cardinal play.

Bryan McAnally led the Green Wave (7-3, 4-2) with three hits. Troy Johnston added a hit and a run scored and Theo Talbott, Mikey Hess and Miller Hutchison each a run scored.

Evan Harper had a double and a run scored, Cole Boroff two hits and Sam Marasek a hit and an RBI for the Johnnies (4-6, 2-5). Nash Andrix struck out four and allowed one earned run in four innings.

Utica wins at Northridge

Jordan Hartman tripled and singled, scored two runs and drove in three, leading Utica to a 9-2 victory at Northridge in LCL-Cardinal play.

Chase Bennett added two hits, a run scored and two RBIs, Gavin Chinn two hits and two runs scored and Matthew Hite a hit and two RBIs for Utica (6-6, 3-4). Connor Whisner struck out three in four five-hit innings, and Ryan Bigler added three strikeouts in three scoreless innings.

James Kalas had three hits and an RBI, Quentin Felhofer two hits and an RBI and Peyton McKenzie a hit and a run scored for the Vikings (1-9, 0-6).

Heath nips Lakewood

Tannar Patterson and Kaden Green each had an RBI hit for Heath in a three-run fifth inning, lifting the first-place Bulldogs to a 3-2 victory at Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.

Connor Corbett and Riley Baum had two hits and a run scored apiece for the Bulldogs (8-4, 6-1), and Hayden Woodward added two hits. Woodward also struck out four in a seven-hitter.

Cayden MacDonald and Nate Gall led the Lancers (6-8, 4-3) with two hits and an RBI apiece. William Marrero tripled and scored, and Tyler Bebout struck out four in 6 1/3 innings.

Watkins cruises

Trace Hartman hit a home run and drove in four runs at the plate and struck out nine in a two-hitter from the mound, leading Watkins Memorial to a 19-0 victory at Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.

Cole Massie added two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs, Braiden Bates a hit, three runs scored and two RBIs and Andrew Botts and Aydan Guthrie two hits, a run scored and two RBIs apiece for the Warriors (8-4, 6-0).

Tyler VonBargen and Kaleb Ribbing had a hit apiece for the Hornets (5-5, 3-3).

Granville blanks Zanesville

Nolan Tracy struck out nine in a three-hit shutout, pitching Granville to a 3-0 victory at Zanesville (2-11, 0-6) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Tracy also had a hit and two runs scored for the Blue Aces (6-6, 2-4). Jakob Culver added two hits and an RBI, Jacob Smith a hit and an RBI and Drew Vahalik a hit and a run scored.

GCA wins on road

Noah Tice homered and drove in three runs for Granville Christian in a 15-0 victory at Torah Academy.

Bentley Johnson added three hits, two runs scored and three RBIs, Josh Benvie two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Jayce Heisler and Gabe White a hit apiece with a combined five RBIs for the Lions (2-3). Johnson also struck out eight in four two-hit innings.

Liberty drops home game

James Rainier and Caleb Windle each had a hit and two RBIs for Liberty Christian in a 19-9 loss to visiting Madison Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Parker Griffin added a hit, two runs scored and an RBI and Jacob Elkins and Evan Dupler a hit, a run scored and an RBI apiece for the Eagles (3-3, 3-1).

BOYS TENNIS

‘Cats beat Comets

Will Woughter at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1, and Evan Devries at No. 2, 6-2, 6-1, won singles matches for Newark in a 4-1 victory at Central Crossing in OCC-Buckeye play.

Trever Anderson and Nic Strauch, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, and Tim Fitterer and Layton Shaner, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, each won doubles matches for the Wildcats (5-4, 2-1).

Watkins wins

Watkins Memorial swept LCL foe Zanesville 5-0.

Liam Grennan, 6-0, 6-0, Michael Hare, 6-0, 6-0, and Will Stought, 6-1, 6-0, won singles matches for the Warriors. Graham Smith and Nathan Walter, 6-2, 6-0, and Tucker Carte and Parker Carte, 6-2, 6-1, won doubles matches.

TRACK

Gordon wins pair

Cadiera Gordon won the 100 (13.25) and 200 (26.89) to lead the host Newark girls during a meet against Westerville South and Thomas Worthington.

Sophie Bidwell also was a double winner in the shot put (35-feet-6) and discus (115-0). Winning as well for Wildcats were Meredith Pyle in the 3,200 (12:23.99) and Aubree Murphy in the 100 hurdles (18.50).

In the boys meet, Newark’s Kaleb McClain, Sean Brechbill, Jacob Brechbill and Adam Cockerham won the 1,600 relay (3:50.34).

Duo leads Heath

Bradlee Higgins in the 300 hurdles (52.4) and high jump (4-feet-6) and Allie Dunlap 100 hurdles (17.5) and pole vault (10-8) each were double winners for the Heath girls in a meet at Licking Valley with Zanesville.

Kylie Williams added an individual win in the discus (74-3) for the Bulldogs.

Winning individually for the host Panthers were Reagan Campbell in the 200 (27.3), Hannah Thompson 1,600 (6:07.10), Bella Reynard long jump (14-0) and Erin Montgomery shot put (29-9.25).

In the boys meet, Cooper Hornfeck won the pole vault (12-6) to lead Valley. Other individual winners for the Panthers were Quinn Hornfeck in the long jump (18-9), Jacob Wheeler 100 (11.6), Marshall Carr 200 (23.8), Logan Debo 1,600 (4:58.6) and Matthew Fehrman 3,200 (11:06.2).

Winning individually for Heath were Jacob Elam in the 400 (56.0) and Jacob Lane in the 800 (2:17.3).
