Roundup: Heath boys basketball rallies past Licking Valley

The Heath boys basketball team hit six 3-pointers during the pivotal third quarter Tuesday, rallying the Bulldogs to a 63-50 victory against visiting Licking Valley in Licking County League play.

Heath, which can clinch the Cardinal Division title with a victory against visiting Northridge on Friday, outscored Valley 24-11 in the third. Reece Huber led the Bulldogs (13-2, 10-0) with 21 points, and Keylan Williams added 17 and five assists and Brandon McLaughlin 13, eight rebounds and five blocks.

Jacob Wheeler scored 10 of his team-high 21 points for the Panthers (6-11, 3-7) in a hot-shooting first quarter. Colby Stough and Jacob Curry added eight points apiece.

Johnstown beats Watkins

Caleb Schneider hit four 3-pointers and totaled 14 points for Johnstown in a 51-43 victory against visiting Watkins Memorial in LCL play.

Cody Siegfried added 13 points for the Johnnies (9-7, 6-4), and Brady Barb hit a trio of 3s, totaling nine points.

Sam Johnson led the Warriors (4-10, 3-6) with eight points, and Trace Hartman added seven.

Heights outscores Utica

Yara Conde led three double-figure scorers with 21 points, sparking Licking Heights in a 78-67 victory at Utica in LCL play.

Dante Collier added 20 points, Jayden Griffith 16 and Kison Edmondson nine for the Hornets (9-5, 7-1).

Seth Cooper piled up 27 points for Utica (10-5, 4-5). Trenton Collins added 20 points and Zach Heckman nine.

NC wins at Cardington

Brandon Buchanan scored 11 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter, sealing Newark Catholic's 47-31 victory at Cardington.

Tristan Gorius and Cole Canter also scored 14 points apiece for the Green Wave (6-8), who outscored the Pirates 22-6 during the final eight minutes.

Lakewood edged by Zanesville

Lakewood was unable to hold onto a 22-15 halftime lead, falling 46-35 to visiting Zanesville in LCL play.

Aidan Bowman led the Lancers (1-12, 0-8) with 10 points. Adam Crawford added eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and Carson Watts six.

Robert Guest scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half to rally the Blue Devils (2-12, 1-8).

Liberty wins at Delaware

Liberty Christian put four players in double figures in a 69-47 victory at Delaware Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Josh Onabanjo led the balanced attack with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven steals. Evan Adair added 17 points, Kaden Minier 16 and Joseph Bracaloni 14 for the Eagles (3-10, 3-4).

GCA falls on road

Joe Benvie scored 15 points for Granville Christian in a 57-36 loss at Tree of Life in MOCAL play.

Zac Leija added six points for the Lions (9-6, 4-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark wins on road

Newark raced out to a 16-1 lead after the first quarter and rolled to a 55-32 victory at Lancaster in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Jenna Shackleford led the Wildcats (11-5, 5-2), who hit nine 3-pointers, with 15 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Maddie Vejsicky added 13 points and Brie Gingras nine.

NC cruises

Newark Catholic (9-4) beat visiting Fairfield Christian 52-9.

Tree of Life stops GCA

Granville Christian fell 64-19 at Tree of Life in MOCAL play. The unbeaten Spartans are ranked No. 6 in this week's Division IV poll

Hannah Hubbard led the Lions (11-6, 7-2) with nine points, and Ella Rhoads added seven.
