Roundup: Heath boys track wins Lakewood’s Sarah Robinson Relays

Carter Wiley and Jahki Royster joined Brayden Bayles and Daylen McIntyre on the winning 400 relay (44.61) and Joshua Jones and Jacob Lane on the winning 800 relay (1:41.44) on Friday, leading the Heath boys track team to the championship during Lakewood’s Sarah Robinson Relays.

Carter Higgins (44-feet-0.75) and Reece Shriner (43-10) added the two best distances in the shot put for the Bulldogs, who totaled 74 points, two ahead of runner-up Mount Vernon. Only two field events were completed due to the weather.

Lakewood’s Corey Rafferty, Caleb Rafferty, Ryan Byers and Derrick Norwood won the 3,200 relay (8:43.81).

In the girls meet, Heath’s Allie Dunlap, Ava Barrick, Bradlee Higgins and Kasey Simpson won the shuttle hurdles (1:14.42), and Simpson, Barrick, Taryn Gamble and Tyra Alston won the 800 relay (1:59.33). Bradlee Higgins, Kerilyn Davis, Annabelle Stephens and Ally Stephens added a win in the 1,600 relay (4:36.25).

Lakewood’s Molly Jones, Maggie Taylor, Olivia O’Neill and Addison Wise won the 3,200 relay (11:32.82). Landry Driskel had the top distance in the discus (121-8) for the host Lancers.

Watkins relay wins

Jacob Holbert, Joseph McIntosh, John Apel and Adam Brazier ran a time of 1:35.78 to win the sprint medley for the Watkins Memorial boys during Lancaster’s Fulton Relays.

McIntosh, Apel, Brazier and Troy Blankenship added a runner-up finish in the 800 relay (1:31.64).

Granville’s Jonathyn Herro had the second-best throw in the discus (134-feet-3) and Watkins’ Andrew Kirk the third (131-4). Lane Hannahs, Cohen Stump, Andrew Harms and Eli Kretchmar added a sixth in the 6,400 relay (18:36.71) for the Blue Aces.

In the girls meet, Granville’s Grace Largent, Hope Mahl, Caitriona Sproul and Ayla Cook placed third in the 400 relay (50.84), and Annie McCracken cleared 9-6 for the third-best finish in the pole vault.

Watkins’ Elise Adelman had the third-best throw in the discus (107-1).

SOFTBALL 

Utica upsets Heath

Emily Meyers’ two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning propelled Utica to a 2-1 victory against visiting Heath in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Karleigh Lees struck out four in six three-hit innings as the game was called in the bottom of the sixth because of rain. Carlie Hill and Lauren Schmitt each singled, and Kaitlin Evans scored a run for Utica (4-10, 2-7).

Savannah Lawson singled in Sydney Cottrell, and Kyndall Spicer tripled for the Bulldogs (9-6, 6-2). Renae Cunningham struck out nine.

BASEBALL 

Heights edged

Blaine Claffey struck out seven and allowed no earned runs in a three-hitter for Licking Heights in a 1-0 loss at Worthington Kilbourne.

Kaleb Ribbing singled twice, and Tyler Brown and Brady Pennington added a hit apiece for the Hornets (5-8).
