Shortly before midnight, Chavez was riding at a high speed on a Suzuki GXS-R when he made an “unsafe turning movement” and hit the back of a Toyota Tundra pickup, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Burglar allegedly burned trash in home

VENTURA — A man who allegedly broke into a Ventura residence Friday night reportedly ate food and burned trash while inside the home, authorities said.

Ventura Police Department officers responded to reports of a possible prowler at a residence on North Dunning Street around 8:20 p.m. The street is on the north side of Telegraph Road, west of Mills Road.

Officers saw the 21-year-old suspect, described as having no permanent home, inside the residence. The man refused to come out, according to police, and was found barricaded in a bathroom when officers entered around 9:30 p.m.

Investigators found the man had damaged a statue and several pots in the yard and had broken a window to get inside, according to police. While in the house, he reportedly ate food, burned trash and smoked methamphetamine.

The man was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary, arson and vandalism violations and misdemeanor resisting. He remained in Ventura County jail Sunday with bail set at $50,000, online jail records showed.
