Roundup | Hiland has no trouble in Division IV baseball tournament opener

Hiland showed why it's the No. 2 seed after dismantling Beallsville 25-0 to open its Division IV sectional baseball play.

The Hawks were powered by Cody Yoder with a homer and finished with two hits and five RBIs and Jeff Todaro doubled, was 3-for-3 and knocked in four runs. Caden Coblentz blasted a homer and had three RBIs as Dakota Miller and Isaak Yoder both doubled and drove in three runs.

Will Schlabach did the rest in tossing a one-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for Hiland.

The Hawks will play host to Shenandoah on Wednesday in a sectional final.

West Holmes 20, Maysville 2

Getting the tournament started off with a bang, West Holmes opened up its Div. II sectional with a win over Maysville.

Rudy Hershberger led the Knights with three hits while Hunter Aurand, Carson Tanner and Matthew Weaver all had two hits apiece. Brady Smith drove in four runs and Nick Ginsburg fired a complete game with eight strikeouts for the win.

The Kights will play on the road against Tri-Valley on Tuesday in a sectional final.

Rittman 10-9, Mansfield Christian 0-7

Pounding out 17 hits, Rittman earned a regular-season sweep of Mansfield Christian as it looks to close out its season.

Jackson Frame was key in both games as he finished with four hits and three RBIs and Justin Metheney contribued both at the dish and on the hill. In the opener, Metheney lined out two hits and in the second game, he started and tossed three strong innings with one strikeout. Dak Mutters (two strikeouts) and Frame both finished up in relief in the second game win for the Indians.

At the dish, Landon Simonton led Rittman going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and in the second game, the Pelfrey brothers (Logan and Lucas) combined for four hits, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Notchin the win in the opener was Aiden Milosevich with eight strikeouts in tossing a two-hit shutout.

SOFTBALL

Dalton finished its season dropping a doubleheader to Canton South, 11-6 and 9-5.

The Bulldogs were led by standout Lexi Vazquez, who was 6-of-8 with three doubles and four RBIs. Josslyn Reynolds had two doubles and two RBIs in the opener, Emily Snyder added a double, two hits and RBI in the first game and Vanessa Swartzentruber had two hits in the second game. Amber Jager added a homer and drove in two runs for Dalton.
