Roundup: Holder leads Northridge's eruption against Newark Catholic

Zach Holder buried five 3-pointers and totaled all 17 of his points in a hot-shooting first quarter Monday, sending the host Northridge boys basketball team to a 60-21 victory against Newark Catholic in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Carter Mallernee recorded 15 points and Justin Townley 10 for the Vikings (5-0, 4-0), who led 32-6 after eight minutes and host Bishop Watterson for a showdown on Thursday. Ethan Payne tied a school record with five blocks, and Mallernee added five steals.

Caden Cecil led the Green Wave (1-4, 1-3) with eight points.

Utica wins on road

Utica outscored host Elgin 16-9 during the fourth quarter to earn a 50-43 victory, avenging last season's Division III tournament defeat.

Trenton Collins totaled 25 points for Utica (5-1), which battles Worthington Christian at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Vernon Nazarene's Ariel Arena. Roman Gamble added 12.

BOWLING

Lakewood sweeps

Lakewood's boys and girls bowling teams each beat Zanesville.

Stewart Poulnott rolled games of 182 and 222 to lead the boys, who edged the Blue Devils, 1,916-1,906. Logan Streets added a high game of 190.

The girls remained unbeaten with a victory, 1,551-946.

Hatfield makes finals

Newark's Maryn Hatfield competed in finals of the 50 freestyle (26.89) and 100 free (59.97) on Saturday during the Northwest Ohio Classic at Bowling Green.
