Roundup: Huntington hosts track and field invitational

BASEBALL

Zane Trace 5, Adena 3: The Pioneers scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to recover from a one-run deficit and defeat the Warriors while at home on Monday. Josh Young picked up his fifth win on the mound after pitching a complete game and striking out six while allowing two earned runs on nine hits.

Blake Phillips, Drew Lane and Austen Ison all picked up two hits in the win, with Ison also batting in a run. Gunnar McCullough went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Young went 1-for-3 and batted in a run.

Austin Magill got the start for the Warriors on the mound, and he struck out five while allowing two walks and one earned run through four and two-thirds innings of work. Easton Henness worked the final one and one-third inning in relief, and he allowed just two walks and didn't give up a hit in that span.

David Magill went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, while Mason Dyer batted in two runs and notched a hit. Andrew Vickers went 2-for-4 with a run, and Christian Heath notched a hit and a run.

Unioto 6, Paint Valley 1: The Shermans remain undefeated in Scioto Valley Conference play after defeating the visiting Bearcats on Monday. Micah Geise led the offense after going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, and Keegan Snyder picked up two hits and batted in two runs. Isaiah Leeth logged one hit and an RBI, and Ashton Crace tallied a hit and scored twice.

Owen Link got the win on the mound for the Shermans. Link pitched five innings and allowed just two hits and one run while striking out eight. Landyn Patterson and Leeth each pitched an inning of relief, with Patterson allowing one hit and Leeth striking out a pair.

Preston Fauber, Gavin Kingery and Alex Long all recorded hits for Paint Valley. Jace Rinehart also notched an RBI after scoring Owen Donahue.

Piketon 5, Southeastern 3: Alex Jenkins pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs to lead the Redstreaks to a win over the Panthers on Monday. Jenkins struck out five batters and walked a pair while on the mound.

Cayde Conley went 1-for-4 at the plate with two runs and a stolen base, and Gage Dofflemyer went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Christian Horn picked up a hit and a run, and Garrett Legg batted in two runs, scored a run and walked twice.

Tyler Brown picked up three hits and scored a run for the Panthers in the loss. Joey Pfeifer hit two doubles and scored two runs.

Waverly 1, South Webster 0: The Tigers gritted through to a tough Southern Ohio Conference win behind a strong performance from Alex Boles on the mound. Boles pitched a complete game on Monday, striking out 10 batters and allowing just two hits all game. Boles also went 1-for-3 at the plate and stole two bases. LT Jordan also picked up a hit in the win, as well as stealing a base and scoring the winning run.

SOFTBALL

Adena 25, Zane Trace 5: The Warriors powered to a huge conference win over the Pioneers on Monday after a strong performance at the plate from Kiera Williams. Williams went 4-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, three RBIs and four runs, and she was followed by Emma Garrison, who went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs.

Madi Holcomb put up three hits including a double, four runs, and two RBIs, and Sophie Cheesebrew went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Caelan Miner put up four runs, an RBI and a hit, and Adriana Guarnieri tacked on a hit, an RBI and two runs.

Alayna Butler and Gracey McCullough each went 1-for-3 for the Pioneers. Butler tacked on a double, a run and an RBI, and McCullough notched an RBI and scored a run. Brynn Wipert notched a hit and an RBI, while Rachel Chamberlin and Laynie Scott each notched a hit and a run.

Unioto 8, Paint Valley 0: The Shermans kept their undefeated conference record rolling with a win over the Bearcats on Monday. Hannah Hull got the win in the circle after allowing one hit through all seven innings and striking out four. Hull also hit a double and batted in two runs while up to bat.

Emma Specht led the offense after going 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs. Alexis Book went 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs, and Morgan Daniels hit a triple, scored two runs and picked up two RBIs. Abbie Marshall batted in two more runs, Amaris Betts logged two hits and Megan Miller tallied a hit and a run.

Sophia Stauffer recorded the lone hit for the Bearcats on Monday after singling in the fifth inning.

Piketon 8, Southeastern 4: The Redstreaks scored five runs in the fifth inning Monday to take the lead and defeat the Panthers. Camryn Campbell pitched another complete game in the circle, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and striking out eight.

Zoey Fuchs went 1-for-3 in the win after hitting a home run, batting in two runs and scoring a run. Danika Ritchie went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Campbell, Kaylee Maynard and Natalie Cooper all hit doubles, with Cooper and Campbell each tallying an RBI.

Erin Richendollar went 1-for-4 for the Panthers with two RBIs and a stolen base. Morgan Ware hit a double and scored two runs, while Jozy Lougheed and Tamra Elliott each batted in a run on one hit. Grace Brown notched two hits and scored a run.

Westfall 17, Huntington 2: The Mustangs scored 16 runs in the first two innings to defeat the Huntsmen in five innings at home on Monday. Olivia Dumm got the win in the circle after pitching three innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out six. Dumm also went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs at the plate.

Gabby Henry went 4-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and two runs, while Delana Landefeld hit a double, batted in three runs and scored twice. Makayla Cook went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Ava Heath tallied two hits, including a double, and four runs.

Rylee Nolan led the Huntsmen after going 2-for-2 and scoring a run. Savannah Bushatz, Allie Baker, Makenzie Tackett, Leah McCloskey and Mackenzie Paugh all recorded hits as well.

TENNIS

Chillicothe 3, Circleville 2: The Cavaliers picked up another solid win after gritting out a win over the Tigers on Monday.

At No. 1 singles, Kaiden Koch won 3-6, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 2 singles, Colin Halm won 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, and at No. 3 singles, Asher Pendell won 6-1, 6-2. At No. 1 doubles, Allison Remely and JB Maravilla were defeated 3-6, 2-6, and at No. 2 doubles, Morgan Harper and Judea Harding were defeated 2-6, 1-6.

TRACK AND FIELD

Huntington Invite: Adena and Huntington each took first place in an invitational track meet hosted by Huntington on Monday afternoon. Adena took first place among girls teams after earning 146 points. It was followed by Westfall in second (88), Zane Trace in third (74), Huntington in sixth (60), Piketon in seventh (53), Paint Valley in eighth (36), Chillicothe in 10th (25) and Southeastern in 11th (14).

Huntington took first place among boys teams after earning 90.5 points. It was followed by Westfall in third (81), Zane Trace and Adena tied for fourth (73), Paint Valley in sixth (71.5), Piketon in seventh (63), Southeastern in eighth (51) and Chillicothe in 11th (9).
