An Oxnard man suffered major injuries after a solo-vehicle crash Monday night on eastbound Highway 126 near Santa Paula, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision around 7:10 p.m. near the Edwards Ranch Road overpass and found a 2001 pick-up truck up an embankment on its driver's side. The truck also apparently hit a support pillar for the bridge.

As a result of the crash, portions of the highway were also closed for more than three hours, the CHP said.

The 56-year-old man was trapped inside the vehicle and had to removed by Ventura County firefighters using cutting tools. The man was later taken to Ventura County Medical Center with major, but not life-threatening injuries, the CHP said.

CHP officials said their initial investigation showed the driver had been in the No. 2 lane when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle drifted off the roadway, down an embankment and launched up into the air. The front of the truck hit a bridge pillar and it came to rest on its side.

CHP said the cause of the crash is still under investigation though DUI is not currently suspected. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the CHP Ventura Area Office at 805-662-2640.

Fight outside bar leads to stabbing, arrest

A 39-year-old Ventura man was arrested Sunday after a report of stabbing, and the victim taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds, police said.

The Ventura Police Department was called about the incident shortly before 2 a.m. in the 6500 block of Telephone Road. Officers arrived to find the victim who was taken to Ventura County Medical Center and treated for his wounds.

The suspect left the scene in a vehicle and struck two parked cars as he fled at a high speed, police said.

Investigators said the victim and suspect had apparently gotten into a fight outside a bar. Officers later found the suspect at his home but he refused to leave. He was arrested Sunday afternoon without incident, police said.

The suspect was arrested and booked into Ventura County jail on suspicion of felony assault with a deadlyweapon and misdemeanors for hit and run and resisting the delay a peace officer, according to police.

He was being held on $80,000 bail and is set to appear in Ventura County Superior Court Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records.
