Roundup: Lakewood boys basketball beats Newark Catholic in overtime

Colton Ferry racked up 13 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime Friday, lifting the Lakewood boys basketball team to a 53-43 victory against visiting Newark Catholic in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

Stephen Slocum added 18 points and Adam Crawford nine for the Lancers (2-16, 1-10), who trailed 27-23 after three quarters.

Bobby Franks led the Green Wave (3-14, 1-11) with 16 points. Griffin Urdarovski added eight.

Granville wins at Heights

Jase Becker piled up 23 points, hitting a trio of 3-pointers, fueling Granville in a 54-48 victory at Licking Heights in Licking County League-Buckeye Division play.

Colt Shaw added 11 points and Alex Engle seven for the Blue Aces (11-6, 9-1), who extended their lead to three games with four left to play.

Toure Young led the Hornets (9-10, 7-4) with 14 points. Ezra Bobo and Jayden Griffith added eight apiece, each hitting a pair of 3s.

Northridge wins at home

Northridge put three players in double figures, pulling away from visiting Heath for a 58-42 victory in LCL-Cardinal play.

Ethan Payne stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Vikings (12-3, 10-1), who maintained a two-game lead on Johnstown and visit Granville on Tuesday. Carter Mallernee added a game-high 18 points and Ian Travis 16.

Preston DeVito and Jordan Kaminsky led the Bulldogs (9-6, 6-5) with 11 points apiece. Ben Mason added eight.

Johnstown beats Utica

Caleb Schneider buried five 3-pointers and totaled 22 points, leading Johnstown to a 50-30 victory against visiting Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Kyle Siegfried added eight points, six rebounds and four assists and Cody Siegfried seven points for the Johnnies (11-6, 8-3), who held LCL leading scorer Trenton Collins to three points.

Roman Gamble led Utica (10-7, 5-6) with 15 points, six rebounds and two steals.

Watkins wins at Valley

Watkins Memorial outscored host Licking Valley 21-4 in the fourth quarter to finish off a 65-38 victory in LCL-Buckeye play.

Sam Johnson and Ethan Ryan led the Warriors (9-8, 5-6) with 13 points apiece as Ryan hit a trio of 3-pointers. Cole Massie added 12 points and Charley Hagy eight.

Gunner Bowman led the Panthers (6-11, 4-7) with 13 points. Jacob Wheeler added seven.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark edged on road

Visiting Newark raced out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter before Reynoldsburg (12-5, 6-2) turned the tables in the middle two quarters, sending the Wildcats to a 55-47 defeat in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Brie Gingras led the Wildcats (8-10, 4-4) with 12 points. Jenna Shackleford added 10 points and three steals and Ally Carr nine points on a trio of 3-pointers.
