Roundup: Lyall's huge night leads Tri-Valley; JG, Sheridan win big

McCONNELSVILLE — Three-point shooting hasn't been the hallmark of this Tri-Valley team, but that changed in a big way on Friday night.

Sophomore Max Lyall scored a career-high 30 points and hit five of the team's nine 3-pointers as the Scotties rolled to an 87-43 win against host Morgan in a Muskingum Valley League crossover.

Lyall scored 19 of his points before halftime, including four of his 3s, as Tri-Valley (7-4, 6-1) built leads of 21-8 after a quarter and 43-20 at the half. He was held to two points in the third, but six other Scotties got on the board in a 19-point quarter that extended the lead to 62-36.

Terrell Darden hit two 3s among his 16 points and Jayden Walker scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half for Tri-Valley, which had 36 field goals. Erik Neal chipped in eight points and Noah Nichols and Aaron Frueh six.

Carson Mummey scored 17 of his team-high 23 points in the second half for Morgan (5-6, 4-3), which was outscored 39-6 from behind the arc. Kooper Cain added seven points for the Raiders.

Kam Karns tossed in 17 points and Keaton Hahn 16 to lead Tri-Valley to a 67-31 reserve win. Gavin Shriver's 11 points led Morgan.

John Glenn 69, Crooksville 42: Nathan Walker scored 13 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to pace the Muskies (6-3, 5-1) in an MVL road conquest in McLuney.

Walker's big night was among 10 players to score for John Glenn, which had 28 total field goals — 24 inside the arc. Caleb Larrick added 12 points, Noah Winland eight and Will Nicolozakes and Stehl Bates seven for the Muskies.

Walker had 10 in the first quarter to send John Glenn out to a 14-8 lead, then Bexlee Woodard scored all five of his points in the second and Bates five of his, including a 3, as the lead grew to 29-18 at the half.

Walker added nine in a 25-point third quarter for John Glenn that pushed it out of reach at 54-32 entering the fourth.

Ryan Moore tallied 11 points and Konlan McIntyre 10 for Crooksville (1-9, 0-7), which had six players score in the first half. Raygen Wolfe scored all five of his points in the third quarter.

Sheridan 75, Coshocton 47: The Generals (5-5, 3-3) scored 50 points in the second half and held a 40-7 edge in free throw attempts — 35 in the second half — in rolling to an MVL crossover win at The Wigwam.

A.J. Winders led three Generals in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Reed Coconis added 13 points and Caden Sheridan 12, while Coconis also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and handed out six assists.

Sheridan led 25-18 at halftime, then nearly matched its first-half scoring with a 23-point third quarter to extend the lead to 48-32.

Sheridan was 24-of-50 from the field, including 18-of-29 on 2s, held a 40-29 rebounding advantage and had 18 assists. The Generals were just 21-of-40 at the line and had 11 turnovers.

Raine Rodich and Kory Holden added nine points and Blake Turnes seven for Sheridan, which had 10 players score.

Coby Moore scored a game-high 19 points and Colton Conkle chipped in 10 for Coshocton (3-6, 1-6), which hit only 18 of 50 floor attempts (36 percent) and had 19 turnovers. Conkle also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and Moore six; four Redskins had two assists.

Philo 63, Meadowbrook 45: The visiting Electrics (4-6, 4-4) faced a six-point deficit after a quarter, but scored 29 points in the second and rolled to a convincing crossover win over the Colts (0-7 MVL) at The Corral.

Philo led 38-18 at the half and took a 51-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Girls Basketball

Zanesville 50, Pataskala Licking Heights 28: Jersey Draughn hit 9 of 12 free throws among her game-high 21 points to lead the Lady Devils (5-6) to a Licking County League-Buckeye Division win at Winland Memorial Gymnasium.

Jada Seyfried added eight points, as she and Draughn were 12-of-16 at the line combined and accounted for all three of the team's 3-pointers.

Zanesville jumped ahead 18-6 after a quarter and yielded only five points in the second to extend the advantage to 29-11. Zanesville had eight players score.

Tori Diggs had seven points for Licking Heights.

Rosecrans 54, Grove City Christian 36: Alaina Berry hit 9 of 14 free throws and scored a career-high 22 points to pace the Bishops (8-5) in a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division win at Rogge Gymnasium.

Berry hit all three of her 3-pointers and scored 16 of her points in the second half, as Rosecrans held leads of 12-4 after one quarter, 28-14 at halftime and 45-22 entering the fourth.

Jenna McLaughlin added 12 points and seven rebounds and Ella Lambert 10 points for Rosecrans, which hit 19 of 44 from the field and held a 38-28 rebounding advantage. Berry also had a team-high nine rebounds.

The Greyhounds were just 17-of-53 from the field and didn't hit a 3. They also had 18 turnovers.

Swimming

Tri-Valley girls second in tri-meet: The Lady Dawgs totaled 70 points to finish behind Granville with 119 and ahead of Lancaster 36.

Sarah Jacoby, Dani Stewart, Jesi Fuhriman and Mia Fuhriman won the girls 200 medley relay (2:05.87) and were second in the 200 free (4:13); Emma Lewis was second in the 200 free (2:25) and 500 free (6:32); Jesi Fuhriman took second in the 50 free (26.04); Mia Fuhriman placed second in the 100 fly (1:15.79); and Stewart took second in the 100 back (1:10.81) to lead the Scotties.

The Tri-Valley boys were third (33) to Granville with 101 and Lancaster with 87, as AJ Lawler was second in the 200 IM (2:12.9) to highlight the boys' effort.

Area teams take to the pool: Zanesville, West Muskingum, Rosecrans, Philo, Maysville, Crooksville and John Glenn competed in a meet on Friday night at the Muskingum Y.

Zanesville's Olivia Baldwin, Abigail Baldwin, Scarlett Toombs and Avery Crook won the 200 medley (2:28.8) and Toombs placed first in the 200 free (2:39.67) and 100 breast (1:35.39), Rosecrans' Emily Ward was first in the 200 IM (3:07) and 100 fly (1:26.93), Crooksville's Ryleigh Crooks won the 50 free (27.68) and 500 free (6:14), John Glenn's Lily Jefferis placed first in the 100 free (1:07.15), West Muskingum's Anna House, Rebecca Strunk, Carlee Hankinson and Lucy Thorne were first in the 200 free relay (2:07.66) and 400 free relay (5:02) and Maysville's Alissa Jinkens was first in the 100 back (1:20.32) to lead the area girls.

John Glenn's Owen Headley took first in the 200 free (2:11.73) and 100 fly (1:07.77), Liam Clinard won the 200 IM (2:36.05) and 100 back (1:10.83) and Westin Walrath placed first in the 50 free (25.95) and 100 free (1:00.06); Maysville's Tillman Hawk was first in the 500 free (6:03) and Zanesville's Justin Ewart took first in the 100 breast (1:20.3) to pace the area boys. Rosecrans won the 200 free (2:04.46) and 400 free relays (4:49), while Maysville claimed the 200 medley relay (2:22).

Sheridan wins pair of MVL duals: The Generals topped Maysville 57-24 and downed Philo 42-34 on Wednesday.

Middle School Basketball

John Glenn eighth grade beat Tri-Valley 45-32, as Justin Church had 16 points and Cash Paisley 12. Colton Rollison led TV with 11 points. Tri-Valley seventh grade won 30-21 behind nine points by K. Campbell, while Quentin Yanosik led John Glenn with five points.

Sheridan eighth grade girls (8-1) defeated New Lexington (0-11), 50-11 as Morgan Tingler and Addie Dennis had 10 points each. For New Lex, Jasmine Oliver had eight. Sheridan seventh grade (6-2) defeated New Lexington (7-4), 38-14, as Samantha Emmert had 12 points. For New Lex, Layla Baker scored 10.
