Roundup: Masloski's big game not enough for Ridgewood girls

SUGARCREEK — An 11-point deficit after three quarters proved too much for Ridgewood to overcome in a 46-34 loss to host Garaway in an Inter-Valley Conference-North Division clash on Saturday.

Rylee Putt and Mercedes Schlabach combined for 29 points — 11 in the third quarter — as the Pirates built leads of 12-4 after one quarter, 22-12 at halftime and 33-22 entering the fourth.

Garaway hit 9 of 14 free throws in the final quarter, with Marley Metzger, Putt and Schlabach combining for eight. Metzger had seven points.

The Pirates held a 17-5 edge in made free throws and a 26-8 advantage in attempts. They also held Ridgewood (1-3) to five first-half field goals.

Kelley Masloski scored a game-high 18 points for Ridgewood, with 16 coming in the final three quarters. Tarryn Morris added seven counters.

Morgan 51, Coshocton 40: The Raiders (3-4) outscored the visitors, 17-3, in the second quarter to build a 25-15 halftime lead it wouldn't relinquish in an MVL-Small School win in McConnelsville.

Odessa Smith and Makayla Kidd had 12 points and Gianna Myers nine for Morgan, which trailed 12-8 after a quarter. The Raiders (2-2 MVL-Small) overcame 24 turnovers.

Savannah Bartlett posted a game-high 20 points and Julia Catrina-Bach and Isabelle Lauvray had seven for Coshocton (0-6, 0-4), which made only 16 of 44 field goals.

Morgan had 32 rebounds as Baylee Harmon grabbed eight and Denae Worley seven. Smith added six assists and two steals.

Morgan won the reserve game, 49-15, behind Paige Lanning's 13 points. Myke Augenstein added nine counters.

Wrestling

Coshocton 10th at Union Local: Dalton Brock earned a third-place finish at 132 pounds to lead the Redskins in the 21-team Union Local Invitational.

Darion Smitley was fifth at 165 and Severeign Workman fifth at 215, while Caden Griffiths was seventh at 113.

University School (West Virginia) rolled to the team title with 343 points, more than double the amount of runner-up Martins Ferry (166) and third-place Parkersburg (West Virgnia) South (164).

Boys Basketball

Carrollton 61, Ridgewood 36: The visiting Generals fell behind 15-3 after one quarter and dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Ridgewood trailed 35-15 at the half and 48-25 through three quarters.
