Roundup: Newark Generals hockey roll to win against PHA Prowlers
Max Vanoy's two goals Thursday led the Newark Generals hockey team to a 9-1 victory against the visiting PHA Prowlers in Ohio Scholastic Hockey League play.
Trey Robinson, Troy Johnston, Ryan Perkins, Lucas Purington, Hayden Locher, Logan Williams and Mikey Chaykowski each scored once for the Generals. Aaron Johnson made 12 saves.
Newark, which visits the Cincinnati Swords for two games this weekend, hosts the Westerville Warcats at 8 p.m. next Thursday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
GCA cruises at home
A 21-7 onslaught in the second quarter sent Granville Christian on its way to a 54-24 victory against visiting Gilead Christian.
Ellie Flowers hit a trio of 3-pointers and matched Brianna Hubbard with 15 points apiece. Skyler Weekley added 10 points and Elizabeth Cox eight for the Lions (9-7).
WRESTLING
Newark falls on road
Newark dropped an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division match 52-28 at Central Crossing.
Jibreel Smith (126), James Daugherty (165) and Reese Redman (190) won by pin. Kallan Baker (175) won 9-1.
BOWLING
Lakewood falls to Sheridan
Amy Smith rolled games of 171 and 163, totaling a series of 334 for the Lakewood girls in a loss to Sheridan, 1,935-1,807, at Village Lanes.
Peyton Mellring added a high game of 171, Vica Pletcher 159 and Riley Bloise 151 for the Lancers. Abby Currence led the Generals with games of 203 and 180.
C.J. Bateman rolled games of 135 and 133 to lead the Lakewood boys in a loss to Sheridan, 1,700-1,361. Matt Flood led the Generals with a series of 305.
