Newbury Park man dies in Nevada crash

Nevada Highway Patrol officials said a Ventura County man died in a single-vehicle accident while driving in the Red Rock National Park loop last week.

The incident was reported at 11:48 p.m. on Nov. 21, according to the patrol, which is a division of the Nevada State Police.

The man, identified as Newbury Park resident Brian Trenton Carvalho, 33, had been driving a Honda Civic eastbound on State Route 159, approaching Arroyo Road, near Blue Diamond. The area is southwest of Las Vegas.

Authorities said the car was traveling too fast for conditions while approaching a curve. The Honda crossed into the westbound lane, where Carvalho overcorrected. The car spun back into the eastbound land and onto the dirt shoulder, where it went down an embankment and overturned, the agency reported.

Carvalho was thrown from the car. He died at the scene, officials said.

Ventura County Sheriff's officials asked for the public's help on Tuesday concerning an accident that injured a boy riding his bike this month.

The incident was reported on the afternoon of Nov. 10, a Thursday, at the intersection of Highways 150 and 33, also called West Ojai Avenue and Maricopa Highway, near Nordhoff High School.

At around 3 p.m., the youth, whose age was not provided, was riding his bike across the intersection when he was hit by a car, sheriff's officials said. The driver stopped briefly but did not try to help the boy, then drove northbound on Maricopa Highway, hitting the juvenile a second time before leaving the scene.

The boy's injuries were not life-threatening, a sheriff's detective said. The youth was hospitalized with injuries described as generally minor.

The driver didn't appear to hit the juvenile intentionally when striking him a second time, he said.

The car was described as a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Ford. The driver was described as a white man with shoulder-length blond hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's Ojai police station at 805-646-1414.
