Roundup: Northridge baseball beats Centerburg for first victory

Carter Burchyk’s two-run triple capped an eight-run fourth inning Saturday, shooting the Northridge baseball team to its first victory of the season, 9-6 against visiting Centerburg.

Peyton McKenzie and James Kalas each matched Burchyk’s two hits, combining for a run scored and an RBI, and Alex Wright added a double and two runs scored and Noah Zigo a hit, a run scored and an RBI for the Vikings (1-8). Kade Matheson struck out six.

Heath wins late

Heath scored two runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh, rallying for a 5-4 victory at Ridgewood.

Hayden Woodward hit two doubles and scored a run, and Jacob Bunn added a hit and a run scored, Paul Gould a run scored and an RBI and Tannar Patterson and Kaden Green a hit and an RBI apiece for the Bulldogs (7-4). Carter Mason struck out four and allowed three hits in three scoreless innings of relief.

Liberty beats GCA

Evan Dupler and Joel Mollohan each doubled, combining for three RBIs in Liberty Christian’s 6-2 victory in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play against host Granville Christian at Don Edwards Park.

Parker Griffin added a hit, two runs scored and two RBIs and Luke Mollohan two runs scored for the Eagles (3-2, 3-0). Dupler and Aiden Geiger struck out six apiece.

Andrew Benvie doubled and scored, Josh Benvie singled and scored and Noah Tice had a hit and an RBI for the Lions (1-3, 1-3). Tice, Josh Benvie and Andrew Benvie combined for 10 strikeouts.

Granville cruises

Ezra Kurek and Owen Hoenie combined for five hits and seven RBIs for Granville in a 15-0 victory against visiting River View.

Nolan Tracy added two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Sawyer Benschoter a hit and three runs scored for the Blue Aces (5-6). Jakob Culver struck out five in five one-hit innings.

Watkins stays hot

Sam Johnson’s two-run single started a six-run sixth inning, breaking Watkins Memorial free for a 13-7 victory against Big Walnut in at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.

Johnson totaled three hits, two runs scored and four RBIs, and Trace Hartman and Ethan Ryan added a double apiece, combining for three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs for the Warriors (8-4), who won their fifth consecutive game. Bradley Vincent struck out three and allowed one hit in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

NC wins

Bryan McAnally and Eli Morris had three RBIs apiece for Newark Catholic in an 11-1 victory against visiting West Jefferson.

Grant Moore added two hits, Miller Hutchison three runs scored and Mikey Hess two runs scored for the Green Wave (6-3). Nate Ferrell allowed one hit and no earned runs in four innings.

Lakewood splits

Lakewood (6-7) beat host John Glenn 4-3 in 10 innings after falling 5-1.

Tyler Bebout’s single scored Cayden MacDonald with the game-winner, and Nate Gall had two hits, a run scored and an RBI, and Colton Ferry matched MacDonald with two hits and a run scored in Game 2. Mason Sprankle, Hayden Ferry, Bebout and Luke Pierce combined for 15 strikeouts and allowed three hits and no earned runs.

Carter Flowers had a hit and a run scored and MacDonald a hit and an RBI in Game 1, and William Marrero allowed one hit and one earned run in four innings.

Valley drops game

Evan Roberts struck out three in three one-hit innings of relief for Licking Valley in an 11-1 loss to Jonathan Alder at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.

Hayden Rodgers had a hit and a run scored and Theo Walsh a hit and an RBI for the Panthers (6-2).

SOFTBALL

McNabb leads Valley

Abbe McNabb fired a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks, pitching Licking Valley to a 1-0 victory against visiting Fredericktown.

Sylvie Devore singled and scored the only run in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Panthers (4-5). Hailey Small also had a hit.

Newark wins pair

Newark (11-5) beat host Dublin Jerome 6-2 in both games of a doubleheader.

Alasandra Spears hit a triple and two doubles with two runs scored and an RBI and Brooke Nelson added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Mallory Back two hits and an RBI in Game 1. Syncere Royster struck out eight in a five-hitter.

Back and Jaylen Jackson each tripled in Game 2, combining for six hits, two runs scored and three RBIs, and Dez Osler and Chelsea Swonger added two hits apiece. Jackson struck out seven in a six-hitter.

Granville sweeps

Granville (9-3) beat Big Walnut 21-5 and 14-1.

Taylor Warehime hit three home runs, and Morgan Layne and Emily Travis also homered as that trio combined for 12 hits, 11 runs scored and 15 RBIs in Game 1, and Rowan Jordan added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Ally Ernsberger struck out 10.

Travis, Avary King and Megan Lodge homered in Game 2 with King totaling two hits and four RBIs, and Warehime added three hits and three runs scored. Lodge struck out six in a four-hitter.

Johnstown wins twice

Johnstown (10-1) beat visiting Pickerington Central 10-4 and 13-2.

Addie Triplett hit two home runs and finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs, and Dakota Staffan added a home run and two RBIs and Ava Peterman three hits, a run scored and and an RBI in Game 1. Staffan struck out six in five three-hit innings.

Triplett hit two more home runs and Staffan another as that duo combined for six RBIs, and Laney Zak added two hits and two RBIs and Macy Walters two hits and two runs scored in Game 2. Peyton Mischel struck out four in five five-hit innings.

Heights sweeps

Licking Heights (9-4) beat visiting Westland 21-0 and 17-4.

Syd Stout and Evie Hays each homered in Game 1, combining for five RBIs, and Savanna Christ added two hits and four RBIs and Carly Bennett a hit, three runs scored and two RBIs. Lydia Rauch struck out seven in five one-hit innings.

Kaylyn Hopf homered and scored four runs, and Rauch, Chesney McPeck and Alissa West each went 3-for-3, combining for eight runs scored and five RBIs in Game 2. McPeck struck out six.

NC splits

Newark Catholic (6-4) edged visiting Bishop Hartley 6-5 before falling 9-7.

Kami Diaz recorded three hits and a run scored, Ava Heffley two hits and two RBIs, Avery Nagel a hit and two RBIs and Joanna Bailey a triple, a run scored and an RBI in the win. Maris Knowlton had two doubles, a run scored and three RBIs and Veronica Bailey a double, a run scored and an RBI in the loss.

Utica splits

Utica (2-9) won 7-4 at Danville after falling 13-3.

Lauren Schmitt had three hits, including a solo home run, and three runs scored, Carlie Hill two hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Lexi Wiegand two hits and a run scored in the win. Karleigh Lees struck out four and allowed no earned runs in a five-hitter.

Cheyenne Smith had a double and two RBIs, and Emily Meyers and Hannah Shaver added a hit and a run scored apiece in the loss.

Lakewood falls

Abby Colley hit a solo home run in Lakewood’s 7-4 loss to visiting Tri-Valley.

Audrey Thomas added two hits, including a triple, a run scored and an RBI, Rachel Crist a double and a run scored and Cora Redman a hit and a run scored for the Lancers (7-5-1).

Northridge drops pair

Northridge (1-9) fell 8-7 and 13-4 against visiting Ridgedale.

Ellie Reese had two hits, a run scored and two RBIs, Kaitlyn Angus two hits, a run scored and an RBI and Emily Hanes a double and two RBIs in Game 1.

Kaylee Goodwin homered, and Kenzie Hannahs added a double, two runs scored and an RBI and Angus a hit and an RBI in Game 2.

Heath edged twice

Heath (8-5) fell 1-0 in 11 innings at John Glenn after losing 3-1 to Steubenville.

Renae Cunningham struck out 15 in seven three-hit innings against the Muskies, and Kyndall Spicer had two hits.

Sydney Cottrell had a hit and a run scored, and Emma Ghiloni drove in the run against the Big Red. Cunningham struck out three and allowed no earned runs.

BOYS TENNIS

Watkins wins title

Watkins Memorial won three flights, winning its Watkins Doubles Tournament.

Liam Grennan and Michael Hare won at No. 1, Graham Smith and Nathan Walter at No. 2 and Will Stought and Wyatt Meade at No. 4.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Granville edges CSG

Grace Lilly made 14 saves for Granville in an 11-9 victory at Columbus School for Girls.

Amelia Sarap totaled five goals and one assist. Zoe Gravitt added three goals, Bella Rockwell a goal and an assist and Gwyn Smith and Kyra Studer a goal apiece for the Blue Aces (4-1).

BOYS LACROSSE

Newark rolls

Brayden Tosi’s four goals led Newark to a 12-2 victory at Lima Senior.

Jibreel Smith and Max Frost added three goals apiece, Luke Miller and Riley Miller one apiece and Drayson Peterson a team-high four assists. Matt Johnson stopped all eight shots he faced, and Kyle Green and Landon Sifford added two saves each for the Wildcats (5-2).

Granville rolls

Maxton Messner scored four goals for Granville in an 11-3 victory against Gahanna.

Beckett Long added three goals, Mikey Chaykowski two and Hart Miller and Matt Chaykowski one apiece for the Blue Aces (7-1). Luc Kadlic made 16 saves.

Johnstown nipped

Blake Shaub and James Swick scored two goals apiece in Johnstown’s 6-5 loss at Xenia.

McKaden Thomas also scored, and Reid Schlagheck and Mateo Saez Moron had an assist apiece. Ben Smith made seven saves, and Max Groves were perfect on faceoffs for the Johnnies.
