Roundup: Northridge boys basketball surges past Newark Catholic

Carter Mallernee scored 10 of his 12 points in the fourth quarter Friday, rallying the Northridge boys basketball team to a 49-43 victory against visiting Newark Catholic in Licking County League-Cardinal Division play.

J.D. Miller totaled 14 points for the Vikings (7-3, 4-2), who outscored the Green Wave 21-11 during the final eight minutes. Justin Townley and Nic Minder added eight points apiece.

Cole Canter led NC (3-7, 1-6) with 15 points. Ashton Cox and Tristan Gorius added nine points apiece.

Granville wins at Valley

Granville held host Licking Valley to five points in the third quarter, and it provided the Blue Aces just enough cushion in a 51-49 victory in LCL-Buckeye play.

Dante Varrasso led a balanced attack with 14 points for the Blue Aces (6-4, 5-1). Dylan Niedermeyer added 13 points and Rex Rader 10.

Dillan Stewart scored 11 of his team-high 20 points in the fourth quarter for the Panthers (6-7, 3-3). Colby Stough added 12 points and Jacob Wheeler 10.

Johnstown beats Utica

Cody Siegfried piled up 21 points, powering Johnstown to a 54-51 victory at Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.

Brady Barb hit four 3-pointers, totaling 12 points. Caleb Schneider added a trio of 3s for nine points and Drew Brett eight for the Johnnies (7-6, 4-3), who have won six of their last seven games.

Trenton Collins led Utica (8-3, 3-3) with 14 points. Zach Heckman added 13 points and Seth Cooper 12.

Heath wins at Lakewood

Heath raced out to a 24-7 lead after the first quarter in a 66-27 victory at Lakewood in LCL-Cardinal play.

Brandon McLaughlin led the first-place Bulldogs (9-2, 7-0) with 21 points. Reece Huber added 17 points and Keylan Williams 11.

Aidan Bowman scored five points, and he and Trey Smith each hit a 3 for the Lancers (0-10, 0-6), who put 11 players in the scoring column.

Watkins edges Zanesville

Watkins Memorial (3-7, 2-4) picked up a hard-fought 55-51 victory at Zanesville (1-11, 0-7) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Sam Johnson led the Warriors with 15 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Trace Hartman added 13 points and Logen VanHoose and Brent Casterline eight apiece.

Liberty rally falls short

Evan Adair made all five of his 3-point attempts as Liberty Christian cut a 28-point deficit down to two in a 64-62 loss to visiting Fairfield Christian.

Adair totaled 25 points for the Eagles (2-9). Josh Onabanjo was right behind with 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Joseph Bracaloni added 11 rebounds.
