Roundup: Northridge girls basketball defeats Granville Christian

Naia Moore scored all 14 of her points in the first quarter Saturday, sparking the Northridge girls basketball team in a 65-26 victory against visiting Granville Christian.

Ava Travis matched Moore’s 14 points for the Vikings (7-15), who had nine crack the scoring column. Reese Callan added 12 points and eight steals, Kenzie Hannahs nine points, Darla Dorman nine rebounds and Hannah Aamodt seven points.

Brianna Hubbard led the Lions (11-10) with nine points. Ellie Flowers added five.

Granville wins on road

Granville used an 11-3 advantage in the third quarter to take the lead for good in a 41-31 victory at Norton.

Aliyah Moore and Ava Gossman totaled 10 points apiece, combining for five 3-pointers for the Blue Aces (20-2), who trailed 10-0 early. Harper Annarino added eight points and Ella Schneider seven, scoring all after halftime.

Valley falls

Avery Williams' 13 points led Licking Valley in a 46-39 loss at Fredericktown.

Rylee Hillis added nine points for the Panthers (4-18).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Utica wins at Highland

Utica finished 31-for-38 at the foul line, sealing a 71-61 victory at Highland.

Trenton Collins racked up 30 points for Utica (13-8). Roman Gamble added 19 and Logan Gosnell eight, hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

GCA edged on road

Eli Cooper's 12 points led Granville Christian's balanced attack in a 55-47 loss at Shekinah Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Andrew Benvie added 11 points and Bentley Johnson and Zack Leija 10 apiece for the Lions (5-16, 3-9).

WRESTLING

Eight go unbeaten

Eight Licking County competitors from three teams were perfect during River Valley's Bender Duals.

Jibreel Smith (126), James Daugherty (165) and Kallan Baker (175) led Newark to a runner-up finish as the Wildcats finished 4-1, beating Shelby 59-22, Bloom-Carroll 39-38, Watkins Memorial 38-27 and West Jefferson 56-24 before falling to Waynedale 51-25.

Nolan Perry (106), Scott Speakman (138) and Chris Flowers (215) were 5-0 for third-place Watkins. Corey Rafferty (126) and Josh Taylor (165) were 5-0 for Lakewood.

INDOOR TRACK

Fillmore, Brazier win events

Licking Heights' D.J. Fillmore won the long jump (23-2.25) and triple jump (45-2.75) with Watkins Memorial's Adam Brazier adding the win in the 800 (2:01.78) during Ohio State's Buckeye HS Qualifier #4.

Watkins' Jaeden Ricketts took runner-up in the 60 (7.04), and John Apel placed fourth in the 400 (52.23). Heights' Similoluwa Jaf-Ogunlayi in the 60 (7.20), Jalynn Fillmore long jump (20-6.5) and Alex Amartey shot put (44-2) each took fifth.

In the girls meet, Watkins' Madeline Daugherty in the 400 (1:04.20) and Scarlett Loevenguth 1,600 (5:35.47) each placed fifth.

Granville wins relay

The foursome of Lillian Eckels, Caitriona Sproul, Avery Ogg and Charlotte Turner ran a time of 4:11.12 on Friday to win the 1,600 relay for Granville during the SPIRE HS Indoor Games.

Eckels also took runner-up in the 800 (2:19.52) as did Zoee Lehman in the 1,600 (5:06.80) and Ella Johnson in the 3,200 (11:16.39). Megan Cummiskey in the high jump (5-2) and Nora Carrington triple jump (33-10.75) each took third, Annie McCracken tied for fourth in the pole vault (10-0) and Sophia Cotts took fifth in the 3,200 (12:06.81).

In the boys meet, Chris Barker placed third in the 200 (22.40) for the Blue Aces. Lane Hannahs added a fifth in the 800 (1:59.74) and Eli Kretchmar seventh in the 3,200 (9:47.71).
