GIRLS GOLF

Coach Craig Antush's Hickory High golf team won the inaugural Mahoning Valley Invitational (hosted by Ursuline) at Yankee Run Golf Course.

Hickory shot a 339, 32 strokes ahead of Ursuline.

Luciana Masters fired a 76 to lead the Hornets and Sasha Petrochko carded a 77. Also, Ava Liburdi shot a 90 and Ava Miklos a 96.

GIRLS SOCCER

* Hickory 1, Cambridge Springs 1 (2OT) — At Cambridge Springs, the Hornets and Blue Devils played to a draw.

Abby Cozad fired in Hickory's goal off an assist from Mia Basile early in the match.

The rest of the gam was a back-and-forth defensive battle.

Hickory midfielders Slade Pradt, Ella Vance, and Cozad were noted for their defense.

* Brookfield 9, Sharpsville 0 — At Brookfield, Madisyn Fisher fired in four goals to lead the Warriors past the Devils.

Katie Gibson and Sophia Hook had two goals each for Brookfield and Mya Jumper had the other goal.

BOYS SOCCER

* Grove City 2, Karns City 1 — At Karns City, the Eagles edged the Gremlins of District 9 on Saturday afternoon.

The match was tied 1-all at halftime. No stats were reported to The Herald.

* Neshannock 5, West Middlesex 1 — At Neshannock Twp., the WPIAL's Lancers defeated the Big Reds.

Dylan Barnes scored for West Middlesex off an assist from CJ Kirby. Ben Erb made 16 saves in goal for the Reds.

* Erie 3, Hickory 2 (OT) — At Veterans Stadium in Erie, Elias Fuchs scored in overtime to lead the Royals past the Hornets.

Gio Rossi and Lukas Jones scored for Hickory. Logan Gordon and Ryan Evangelista were credited with the assists. Matt Maitland made 15 saves in goal for the Hornets.

Paul Katende scored twice in regulation for Erie. Evan Nadzam earned the win in goal with five saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

* Grove City 3, Warren 2 — The Eagles edged the Dragons in a non-region match.

Macy Matson and Cana Severson captures singles wins for Grove City and Jane Coulter and Emily Williams teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles.

Singles: Matson (GC) def. Iris Kiehl, 6-0, 6-0; Severson (GC) def. Grace Carr, 6-4, 6-3; Lucy Harrison (W) def. Ella West, 6-1, 6-3. Doubles: Coulter-Williams (GC) def. Izzy Heacox-Kaelin Hadfield, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; Maddy Perry-Sydney Cochran (W) def. Ava Dlugonski-Joella Bandi, 6-3, 6-0.

"It was a great challenge for us to play a talented and well-coached Warren team in a non-region match," said Grove City coach Michael Coulter. "I was proud of Cana Severson's singles match in which she played her best tennis so far this season, and our doubles team of Emily Williams and Jane Coulter fought through a tough three-set match."

Franklin Tournament

* Kennedy Catholic split with Mercer. Mercer won the first set 25-24 while KC won the second set 25-21.

* Cranberry swept KC, 25-24, 25-20.

* KC swept Eisenhower, 25-15, 25-18.

* Oil City swept KC, 25-20, 25-15.

FOOTBALL

* Lakeview 51, Kennedy Catholic 14 — At Stoneboro Friday, the Sailors' Mitchell Tingley put on a show in the Region 1 win over Kennedy.

Tingley rushed for 125 yards, kicked six extra points and three field goals, intercepted two passes, scooped up a fumble and ran for a score, returned a kickoff 74 yards for a score, and registered 10.5 tackles.

Danick Hinkson rushed for a pair of touchdowns for Lakeview (2-0, 2-1) and Cameron Pence scored on a quarterback sneak and tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Garret Guthrie.

Simeir Wade led the way for Kennedy Catholic (0-2, 0-3). He rushed for 196 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. Elijah Smith had a two-point conversion.

* Slippery Rock 24, Greenville 7 — At Troy Alan Stadium in Slippery Rock Friday, the Rockets (1-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten with the Region 3 win over Greenville (0-2, 0-3).=

Brett Galcik rushed for a pair of touchdowns, William Mokel tossed a TD pass to Maddox Allen, and Sal Mineo kicked a field goal for the Rockets.

Mokel was 20-of-33 for 240 yards and rushed for 71 yards on 11 carries. Mineo caught three passes for 73 yards while Galcik pulled in five catches for 63 yards.

Greenville trailed 24-0 before scoring late in the third quarter on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Nick Solderich to Jase Herrick.

Solderich was 12-of-25 for 124 yards with the TD toss and three interceptions. Malachi Hyde led the Trojans' ground game with 14 carries for 86 yards. Herrick pulled in five passes for 65 yards.
